Abstract: A system and method for detection of the depression using artificial intelligence technology is disclosed. The system provides a powerful screening and detection tool for depression and providing help for the same, which comprises of an electronic device, a software application with artificial intelligence technology, a camera and a database. Any user who is concerned about an individual having depression can use the system to provide the symptoms of the individual to the software application. The artificial intelligence technology, automatically analyses the symptoms along with the heart rate of the user, and provide the analysis report whether the individual is suffering from depression or not and also the severity of it. In a positive case the system the caretakers of the patients can contact the medical practitioners through video call using camera and explain the issues.
Claims:We Claim:
1. A system and method for detection of the depression comprising of:
a. an electronic device with an active internet connection or a Wi-Fi connection and a camera preferably a smartphone;
b. a software application with artificial intelligence having features including virtual assistant, voice recognition, a heart rate sensor; and
c. a database which contains the list of all possible symptoms which can be seen in the depression.
wherein, the software application is installed in the electronic device and with the help of the software application and artificial intelligence technology, the existence and severity of the depression can be estimated accurately.
2. A system as claimed in claim 1 wherein, the electronic device can be a smartphone, laptop, tablet etc., which is installed with the software application with the help of the internet or Wi-Fi connection.

A system as claimed in claim 1 wherein, the software application uses artificial intelligence technology and heart rate sensor to measure the heart rate of the individual to find out the depressed state and the camera feature present in the smartphone can be used to communicate live with the medical practitioners for further assistance and treatment.
4. A system as claimed in claim 1 wherein, the database consist of a list of all possible symptoms which an individual can show during the course of any depression.
5. The method of operation of the system comprising:
a. installation of the software application in the electronic device with the help of internet or Wi-Fi connection;
b. registration of the user for account creation;
c. providing the symptoms experienced by the individual suffering from depression;
d. analysis of the symptoms by the artificial intelligence technology to provide an analysis report with the stage of depression;
e. measuring the heart rate of the individual suffering with depression to know their state of mind;
f. initiating communication with the medical practitioners through video chat feature in the software application;
g. interaction with the medical practitioners for further assistance and treatment; and
h. creation of medical report by the software application which discloses the condition and the medication prescribed by the medical practitioners.

The present invention relates generally to a system and method for diagnosis of an illness or disorder. More particularly the present invention relates to a system which uses artificial intelligence technology to detect the presence of depression which is one of the major mental disorders which causes significant impairment in daily life.
Background of the invention
Depression is a mental health disorder characterised by persistently depressed mood or loss of interest in activities, causing significant impairment in daily life. It is a state of low mood which can directly affect a person's thoughts, behaviour, motivation, feelings and so forth. An individual feels sadness, difficulty in thinking and giving concentration to any task. It also affects health of an individual where there is drastic increase in appetite leading to obesity or drastic decrease in the appetite leading to malnutrition. It affects sleep as well where an individual might experience insomnia. The individuals who are in depression might feel dejection, hopelessness and, sometimes, suicidal thoughts. It can either be short term or long term.
Depression is also a symptom of some mood disorders such as major depressive disorder or dysthymia. Some individuals might even get depressed when they lose their loved ones and also due to diseases and disease treatments involving high dose drugs.
Women have higher depression rate than men. Depression can impact every area of a woman’s life including their physical health, mental health, social life, relationships, career, and so forth. Women are about twice as likely as men to suffer from depression. Depression is treatable using medications, moral support and help of family and friends who can help the individual to come out of depression.
Even though depression is treatable, identification of the symptoms of depression, and getting help on time is most crucial. Therefore there is a need for a system and method which can positively screen the individual’s symptoms with the help of their heartbeat and help them to get necessary help on time, so that they can be out of their depressed state as soon as possible.
Summary of the Invention
The present invention discloses a system and method for detection of the depression at the comfort of one’s home, which uses the artificial intelligence technology. The present invention provides a powerful screening and detection tool for depression which is seen mainly in women in cases of loss of loved ones, post pregnancy, heavy medications for treatment of diseases and so on.
The present invention discloses a system for detection of depression and providing help for the same, which comprises of an electronic device with an active internet connection or a Wi-Fi connection preferably a smartphone, a software application with artificial intelligence having features including virtual assistant, voice recognition, a camera to communicated with the medical practitioners and a database which contains the list of all possible symptoms which can be seen in the depression. According to the present invention, the electronic device is installed with the software application through which the user can analyse the symptoms experienced by an individual suffering from depression, and further help the individual in getting help from the comfort of their home.

The users can tick the symptoms which are seen based on their experience and the artificial intelligence technology combines the input together to narrow down on the possible depression based on the symptoms. The main factor which has to be monitored during depression is the heart rate, as there are lot of experiments which suggests that depression and cardiovascular disease are linked, and prolonged depression can lead to heart diseases. On the other hand, those who have heart diseases, are likely to be depressed, therefore it is a two way relationship.
With the help of the present invention, the users who are taking care of the depression patient can measure their heartrate using the software application, which can show their state of depression. In order to measure the heartrate of an individual, the software application is used, which comprises of heart rate sensor, which measures the heart rate in BPM i.e. beats per minute. The heart rate is measured optically using an optical LED light source and an LED light sensor. When the depressed individual places their finger tip on the screen of the smartphone in which the software application is installed, then the light shines through the individual’s skin, and the sensor measures the amount of light that reflects back. The light reflections will vary as blood pulses under your skin past the light, thus providing accurate heart rate.
The individuals who are suffering with depression have highly abnormal heart rate as they are relaxed at one time and are highly active at another time. The individuals who are under medication due to depression i.e. who take anti-depressants are at increased risk for atrial defibrillation, than those who do not consume anti-depressants. And increased risk of heart diseases leads to premature death in severe cases. In order to prevent such severity in health conditions, it is highly important to monitor the heart rate of a depressed individual, which reveals a lot about their health, which in the present invention is made possible with the help of the software application.

The present invention provides a powerful screening and detection tool for depression which is seen mainly in women in cases of loss of loved ones, post pregnancy, heavy medications for treatment of diseases, alcohol, premenstrual problems, infertility, menopause, thyroid problems, body image issues, family issues, relationship issues, and so forth.
The present invention is accessible by anyone who has access to electronic devices such as smartphone, tablet etc., having the camera feature and artificial intelligence technology with heart rate sensor, and an internet connection for data communication. According to the present invention, the electronic device is installed with the software application through which the user can analyse the symptoms experienced by the depressed individuals and can detect the presence of depression, and the users with the help of the software application can initiate a video chat with the medical practitioners to seek treatment for depression at the comfort of their home, thus eliminating physical trips to the hospitals.

Additionally, the list of the common symptoms associated with various levels of depression due to various causes are listed in the software application, which is accessible to its users. The users can tick the symptoms which are seen based on their experience and the artificial intelligence technology combines the input together to narrow down on the level of depression based on the symptoms, and the medical practitioners whom they can contact for the same purpose.
According to the present invention, the process includes installation of the software application in the electronic device such as a smartphone using the internet or Wi-Fi connection; registration of the user with the software application to create an account; providing the symptoms which are experienced by the individual with depression in the software application; interpretation of the symptoms by the artificial intelligence technology; displaying the analysis report disclosing the severity of depression with the mentioned symptoms along with the severity of the disorder; displaying the list of medical practitioners who are experts in the field, who can be contacted for further assistance; initiating communication with the selected medical practitioners with the help of video chat option in the software application for further treatment.
The present invention is highly accurate. The diagnosis of depression can take several hours to days to complete as the results take time and it also depends on patient’s cooperation. Also, with known methods, a family may have to go to a doctor's office, fill out lengthy forms, and be evaluated throughout the day. Due to the greatly reduced number of parameters required to make the diagnosis, the depression diagnosis resulting from the present invention can be made with near perfect accuracy based on heart rate and symptoms, and with expert advice. Also the patients can contact the medical practitioners through the video chat feature of the software application to discuss about the patient and treatment at the comfort of their home.
Additionally, with the help of the present invention, the care takers of the multiple patients can connect with each other and can discuss their issues among themselves, thus providing moral support to each other and also helps in building a large network where one can help the other and also spread awareness of the depression.
