Specification

DESCRIPTION TECHNICAL FIELD
Procedure for assembling special backshells on LCA-Tejas Aircraft.
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION
LCA-Tejas houses different flight critical/safety critical LRUs, emission of EM/RF signals is
unavoidable. Since it is very compact, the chances of interference of unwanted signals emitted
by one LRU with the neighboring units is higher.
To achieve stringent EMI/EMC requirements, several measures are adopted. One among them
is introduction of special backshell.
These backshells provide strain relief, 360 deg shield termination. They are designed for
providing unique EMI/RFI protection and cable sealing for immense protection.

SUMMARY OF INVENTION
440 SERIES BACKSHELL ASSY INSTRUCTION
1. Prepare the cable for termination process.
2. Strip the insulation based on backshell length. Separate the cable and shield, make the shield into strip form. Slide the items shown above onto the cable.
3. Finalize the connector and screw the backshell at the end of connector.
4. Mate item(b) and item(a) and close the top cover of backshell with the screw provided.
5. Adjust the cable inside the backshell, fold back the shield at the rear end of item (b).
6. Place the shield over the end of item b.
7. Crimp the shield at the end of item b with band-it-band using hand banding tool (600-058).
8. Trim the extra shield if any.

443 SERIES BACKSHELL ASSY INSTRUCTION
1. Prepare the cable for termination process.
2. Strip the insulation based on backshell length. Separate the cable and shield; make the shield into strip form. Slide the items shown above onto the cable.
3. Finalize the connector and screw the backshell at the end of connector.
4. After adjusting the cable inside the backshell, fold back the shield at the rear end of item (a).
5. Place the shield over the end of item (a).
6. Crimp the shield at the end of item (a) with band-it-band using hand banding tool(600-058).Trim the extra if any.
7. Screw the back cover, item (b) to the backshell, item (a) and tighten the clamp with the screw at item(b).

HEX BACKSHELL ASSY INSTRUCTIONS
1. Prepare the cable for termination process.
2. Strip the insulation for 40mm. Slide the items shown above on to the cable.
3. Remove the shield of shielded cable to 10mm. Slide the solder sleeve and ferrule over the shielded cable.
4. Position the assembly into the holding fixture ad-1319-9.
5. Heat the solder until it is completely melted.
6. Finalize the connector & screw the backshell at the rear of the connector.
7. Fix ferrule on to star and assemble as shown above.

SE9FM SERIES BACKSHELL ASSY INSTRUCTION
1. Prepare the cable for termination process.
2. Strip the insulation for 40mm. Separate the cable and shield; make the shield in strip form. Slide the items shown above onto the cable.
3. Finalize the connector. Screw the backshell at the rear of the connector. Fold back the shield at the rear end of item (a).
4. Install the shield as given below:
5. Slide the first ring(b) over the shield, insert the shield into second ring{c). Fold back the shield, Trim the extra shield if any. Screw the back cover at the rear of the backshell. Tighten the clamp with the screw provided at item(d).

SE53FM SERIES BACKSHELL ASSY INSTRUCTION
1. Prepare the cable for termination process.
2. Strip the insulation for 40mm. Separate the cable and shield; make the shield in strip form.
3. Slide the items shown above onto the cable.
4. Finalize the connector. Screw the backshell at the rear of the connector. .
5. Close the top cover of backshell after adjusting the cable inside the backshell. Mate item{b) and item(a).
6. Fold back the shield at the rear end of item (b).
7. Install the shield as given below:
. Slide the first ring(c) over the shield, insert the shield into second ring(d). Fold back the shield, trim the extra shield if any. Screw the back cover at the rear end of the item(b). Tighten the clamp with screw provided at item (e).

TVNSA SERIES BACKSHELL ASSY INSTRUaiON
1. Prepare the cable for termination process.
2. Strip the insulation based on backshell length. Separate the cable and shield; make the shield into strip form. Slide the items shown above onto the cable.
3. Finalize the connector and screw the backshell at the rear end of connector. Fold back the shield at the rear end of item (a).
4. Install the shield as given below:
5. Slide the first ring(b) over the shield, insert the shield into second ring(c). Fold back the shield, trim the extra shield if any. Screw the back cover at the rear of the backshell.

TXR SERIES BACKSHELL ASSY INSTRUCTION
1. Prepare the cable for termination process.
2. Strip the insulation for 40mm. Separate the cable and shield; make shield into strip form. Slide the items shown above onto the cable.
3. Finalize the connector. Screw the backshell at the rear of the connector. Fold back the shield at the rear end of item (a)..
4. Comb'the ray braid, Place the shield along with ray braid over the rear end of item (a).
5. Slide the tinel lock ring over the braid.
6. Clamp the ring between the jaws of the hand tool(Resistance heater-915173-03) ensuring that at least one of the patches of the thermochromic paint is visible.
7. Switch on the heater, and when ready, squeeze the hand tool until the microswitch in the handle activates. As soon as the thermochromic paint turns black, release the pressure on the hand tool, which in turn; releases the microswitch.
8. Leave the assembly to cool.
9. Trim the excess braid.
