Abstract: In this present invention, the support struts are kept asymmetrically around the fan blades and the shape of each strut is given as spider-leg type. The advantage with the asymmetrical positioning is that the blade interaction with the strut is not periodic or in phase while rotation. The phase relationship has a strong influence on the amplitude of noise at BPF and its multiples. The asymmetrical positioning results in less noise at the discrete frequency tones. The spider-leg type design provides structural rigidity and reduces noise while maintaining the maximum distance from the blades. The more the distance from the fan blades the lesser the noise at BPF and its multiples. The combination of these two modifications gives the maximum noise reduction at the discrete frequency tones. 1. A fan assembly comprising an axial flow fan (1), said fan having a hub portion (2) and a plurality of fan blades (3), each fan blade having a root region (3a) and a tip region (3b), the root regions (3a) of each fan blade (3) being secured to blade attachment surface (3c) at the hub portion (2), a motor (2A) secured at the centre of the fan assembly powering the fan blades a shroud (4) encompassing the fan blades (3) characterized in that plurality of support struts (5) asymmetrically secured between the shroud (4) and the hub portion (2).
2. The fan assembly as claimed in claim 1, wherein each of the asymmetrically secured plurality of support strut (5) define a substantially inverted U profile structure.
3. The fan assembly as claimed in claim 1, wherein the asymmetrically secured plurality of support struts (5) works conjointly with the shroud (4) and the hub portion (2).
4. The fan assembly as claimed in claim 1, wherein the cross-section of the plurality of support struts (5) increases with decrease in number of support struts (5).
5. The fan assembly as claimed in claim 1, wherein the distance between the fan blades (3) and centre (5 A) of plurality of support struts (5) is about 5cm -10cm.
6. The fan assembly as claimed in claim 1, wherein the plurality of support struts (5) is capable of withstanding torsional vibration.
