Audio Data Synchronization

Abstract: After downloading various types of data from flight data recorder, analysis is performed and presented in various forms. This method helps in synchronizing the audio data (of selected channel) with various critical recorded parameters, which could be of great help in case of post data analysis.

Specification

The present invention relates with the new representation method for the data
recorded in Flight Data Recorders. In flight data Recorder, mainly A/c and
Audio data are recorded, which come from different sensors and microphones.
Once recorded, they are downloaded through Ground Replay Equipments and
processed individually. This Audio-Data synchronization feature provides the
combined representation of A/c and Audio data.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The analysis of the downloaded A/c data in either tabular or graphical format for
aircraft parameters and Audio data in playable formats is done individually. If
recorded A/c data is available which are directly related to recorded Audio data,
then their individual analysis does not reproduce a very good picture about their
variations or performance. For example:
1) If Pilot is communicating with a controlling officer somewhere at the Air
force base and as per his instructions, he tries to make some changes like
change in direction, altitude, speed etc. In that case, if recorded voice and
variation in parameter values both are displayed simultaneously, it gives a
very good idea the flight.
2) If Pilot and Co-Pilot communicate and decides to fire some missiles or gun,
then combined displayed of recorded audio and performance of weapon
can be very much helpful.
Annexure‐II
SUMMARY OF PRESENT INVENTION
In accordance with one aspect of present invention is to provide training help to
Pilots and Co-Pilots.
In accordance with another aspect of present invention is to get better idea
about synchronization among the instructions provided by Air Traffic Controlling
Officer at the base and the Pilot.
In accordance with another aspect of the present invention is to provide the
detail analysis about the different A/c parts.
In accordance with another aspect of the present invention is to provide
information about underperformance or failure of any of the A/c parameters.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
Figure 1: It shows visual representation of the audio data synchronization in
Ground Replay Equipments during analysis.
Figure 2: It shows the Block level connection between audio-data
synchronization device, flight data recorder system and other accessories.
Figure 3: It shows the Block Diagram of the Audio-Data Synchronization.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION
In flight Data recorder, the A/c parameters and Audio data, both are recorded
against time parameter. That is why this time parameter is used as common
base for this present invention. Here, a/c parameters are plotted in graphical
format against time and recorded audio data is decompressed against the
same time variation.
First select an A/c parameter which is supposed to be analyzed against
recorded audio. Also, select more than one parameter in graphical display

screen. Now choose the audio data from the same sortie number. And it is
attached to the graphical screen using thread. So when user click on the graph
at any particular instant of time, audio data is updated according to the time
value of that pixel. And audio starts playing thereafter with a moving bar,
showing variation in graphical value against playing voice/audio.
In order to stop this functionality, user needs to click on graph once again. And
with this click, audio is stopped and initialized. So again, it is ready to be
started from any other new position on the graph.
Apart from that, it has a unique feature to make selection of desired audio
channel from the list of all available audio channels. This feature is very much
helpful from the training point of view for Pilot and Co-Pilot, which provides
them real time situation while fight simulation.
