Abstract: The present invention provides an austenitic stainless steel material which has excellent carburization resistance even in a high temperature environment of 650°C or higher. An austenitic stainless steel material according to the present disclosure contains, in mass%, 0.030% or less of C, 0.01% to 1.00% of Si, 0.01% to 2.00% of Mn, 0.040% or less of P, 0.0100% or less of S, 8.00% to 18.00% of Ni, 15.00% to 25.00% of Cr, 0.10% to 5.00% of Mo, 0.20% to 1.00% of Nb, 0.060% to 0.250% of N, more than 2.00% but not more than 4.00% of Cu and 0.0010% to 0.0100% of B, while satisfying formula (1). (1): Nbs × 0.8 > Nbb In formula (1), the average Nb concentration in mass% in the surface layer spanning from the surface of the austenitic stainless steel material to a depth of 10 µm is used for Nbs, and the average Nb concentration in mass% in the regions of the austenitic stainless steel material excluding the surface layer is used for Nbb.
