Abstract: A auto hinge-cum-door closer-cum-door stopper set is an invention to do away with three items used separately on a door, All the three requirement of these product have been clubbed in one item as enumerated above. This three-in-one product serves the purpose of i)hydraulic door closer ii)butt hinges and iii) door stopper; can be easily installed on all type of door and frame combinations and can be handled by consumers with great ease. Has longer life than these items.
The present invention relates to a AUTO HINGE-CUM-DOOR CLOSERCUM-
DOOR STOPPER set comprising of at least one spring unit and
one hydraulic unit; (FIG 2) the upper portion(l) of the spring
unit is fixed to the door panel, has a circular hollow body(7)

leakage, if any, of hydraulic fluid.
The existing known type door closers which are normally surface
mounted, exposed type having many disadvantages as under:
These door closers are exposed type and
l)have got to be supported with butt hinges before being
installed on doors,
2)have projected arms or side/front brackets; somewhere
3)have to cut the doors panel, somewhere, to conceal the
device/door closer and then cover the cut portion with
aluminium/s.s or brass plates etc
4)the cut section remains weaker at that point
5)oil leakage complaint are very common,
6)giving an ugly look to the product and the door,
7)requires refilling of the oil.for which the door closer has to
be removed from the door and frame.
8)These create creaking noise.
9)These cannot be installed on arch, semi arch or fancy doors
10)These cannot be installed when there is no frame at all or
when the frame is projecting only by 5mm from the wall or when
there is granite walls
11)These known type door closers cannot be installed on doors
without frames.
12)These cannot be installed on doors opening outside when these
doors are covered with rolling shutters,
13)These conventional door closers obstruct the free movement of
wall curtains,
14)In order to keep the door open, additional door stopper has to
be installed whose rubber invariably wears out very easily,
leaving an arch mark on the floors thus needing frequent
replacement of door stopper besides permanently spoiling the.
floors..
The proposed auto hinge-cum^door closer-cum-door stopper has
been invented in view of the above disadvantages, its
distinguishing features are as under:
It is. three-in-one multi-functional device not produced so
far in India, it serves the purpose of hydraulic door closers,
butt hinges and door stopper as well. It has spring adjustment
for opening door uptoany desired angle. It has provision for
adjusting closing speed suiting individual requirement or as per
particular site conditions. It is provided with thrust ball
bearing in each individual unit which makes the invention a light
weight feeling item, works noiselessly and smoothly.
These bearings make it carry heavier doors without exerting extra
pulling power/or pulling the doors with great ease even by
children and aged persons.
These are the only multi functional device which can be installed
on arch, semi arch, fancy doors, cubical doors, and on all type
of doors and frames combinations. It needs no cutting of door
panel for its.installation. In previous art all the conventional
door closers have the flow of hydraulic fluid, while in operation,
in horizontal movement which more or less results in
failure when in hold- open position whereas in this invention the
flow of hydraulic fluid is in vertical movement up and down and
vice versa. In case the door is held open, it tends to improve its
functioning and performance. It has a built-in arrangement for
holding the door open at 90 deg or so which serves the purpose of
door stopper also.
The advantage of this three-in-one auto hinge-cum-door closer-cum
door stopper set are as follows:
It can be installed very" easily like any ordinary butt
hinges. It can be installed on all and any type of door and
frame. It does not need ordinary butt hinges support ..This saves
the cost of butt hinges, installation charges of hinges. This
set can be installed on doors which do not have any frame at top
or bottom, or when the frame is projecting only 5mm from the
wall. It does not need cutting of door panel for its
installations. Does not hinder movement of wall curtains. Doors
can be removed for repairs or. painting etc without removing the
nuts from the door or frame. It is detachable.
The present invention is fully described below, by way of
illustration with reference to the accompanying drawings, not to
scale, for better understanding:
FIG 2. is the plan and part sectional view of the spring unit of
this invention.'
FIG 1 is the plan and part sectional view of the assembled
hydraulic unit of this invention.
In all the figures of these drawings the like parts have been
denoted by the same reference numerals and letters.
When the door fitted with Auto Hinge-cum-door closer-cum-door
stopper set of this invention, is opened, the upper portion(1)
&(1)(fixed, with door panel)of the spring unit and hydraulic unit
respectively move with the movement of the door. In the spring
unit the shaft (9)rotates thereby winding the compression
spring (5) • because its one end (13)'is hooked with the shaft(9) and
the other end(6) is hooked to the bush(4) which is fixed, hammer
tight, in the lower part(15) of •. the spherical opening which is
fixed to the door frame and does not move with the movement of
the door.
The upper portion (1) of the hydraulic unit which is fixed to the
door panel also rotates commensurate with the movement of the
door. The upper portion further rotates the shaft(3)passing
through the worm(8)fitted with piston(20) at its bottom and the
piston(20)moves vertically upward; with the worm(8), sliding up
along the splines in the shaft(3) on the portion inserted in the
worm(8) matching perfectly with the splines in the worm(8),
guided through diagonal grooves in the worm(8); this upward
movement of the piston squeezes the hydraulic fluid from upper
chamber(7)down to lower chamber(6)through valves VI, V2 due to
downward pressure exerted on the valves. The valve V2 allows free
flow of the oil to lower chamber(6)below because the steel
ball(ll) in the piston(20)is pushed downwards thus allowing quick
movement of the fluid from upper chamber (7) to low chamber (.6)
passing through the sides of the hole because diameter of the
opening at bottom is bigger than diameter of the ball(11) and
also the upper end. The other valve VI also allows the movement
of oil (12) from upper chamber(7) to the low chamber because the
gap around the adjusting screw(19)goes on increasing due to taper
in the screw upward, thus allowing flow of oil, higher the piston
goes, more the gap around the adjusting screw(19)(which does not
move and is fixed at a particular position)greater the flow of
•the oil to lower chamber
When the door is left, after pulling it open upto a degree
of less than 90 deg, the spring(5)in the spring unit(FIG 2)has a
tendency to regain its original position by pulling back the door
with full force gained by winding of the spring while it was
opened. Thus the spring unit (FIG 2)pulls back the upper part(l)
of the spring unit(FIG 2) and upper part(l)(FIG 1) of the
hydraulic unit simultaneously in the closing direction as both
the upper parts are fixed to the door panel.
Now the upper part of the hydraulic unit also rotates the
shaft (3).in closing direction of the door, that further pushes the
piston(9) downwards, fixed at the bottom of the worm(8), this
sudden closing of the door due to the pulling pressure of the
spring(5) exerted on this unit is checked by the controlled
movement of the fluid from the lower chamber(6) to upper
chamber(7) through the valves VI and V2; due to movement of the
worm(8)in the reverse direction downwards along the grooves,
which in turn presses'the fluid in' lower chamber(6) to upper,
chamber(7), this pressure pushes the steel ball(11)in valve VI
upward till • it rests against the seat in the valve matching the
diameter of the ball(11) thus completely blocking the flow of the
fluid upwards through this valve VI. So the only passage for the.
fluid to reach upper chamber(7) is through the valve V2, this
flow can be adjusted by adjusting screw pin(19) which, in turn
results in controlling the closing movement and speed of the
door. This closing speed and movement of the door is controlled
by increasing or decreasing the gap in valve V2 with the help of
adjusting screw(19)due to its taper position. This can be done
easily by the consumer depending upon their individual
requirement
