THE FOLLOWING SPECIFICATION PARTICULARLY DESCRIBES THE NATURE OF THE INVENTION AND THE MANNER IN WHICH IT IS TO BE PERFORMED.

CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS AND PRIORITY
[001] The present application does not claim priority from any patent application.
TECHNICAL FIELD
[002] This invention relates to the field of automation of manual system specifically
automobile automation. This invention is concerned with daily means of transportation of a person. Particularly, this invention is associated with a simplified, fast and more efficient way of changing gears of a vehicle. More specifically, this invention will transmit gears electronically on the press of a button using lead screw mechanism.
BACKGROUND
[003] The automobile is substantial part of human life as it facilitates transportation,
reduces time to travel from one place to another and more importantly bring people closer. In automobile it is an imporrtant task to transmit gears so that the power from the engine can be effeciently utilized.
[004] Admitting all the benefits of having an automobile, it is still a challenge for
many people to drive a vehicle, especially changing gears as it requires multitasking i.e. changing lever position while controlling and managing clutch and without loosing concentration from the road. Begginers and elderly people find it very difficult to do multitasking and often capitulate. These problems must be considered and a system should be designed to facilitate the process of driving a vehicle and make it more comfortable.
[005] The difficulties in present vehicles related to gear shifting in particuar are as
follows:
1. It is inconvenient and demanding task to transmit gears.
2. It is difficult to remember gear pattern for elders and beginners.
3. It takes more time to transmit gears resulting in loss of power.
4. It also drifts driver's concentration away from the road.

PRIOR ART
[006] Prevailing automatic gear transmission systems although being easy and
efficient, they have several limitations. Majority of the current systems are bulky and difficult to install resulting in increased overall weight of the automobile. Existing system requires several other components to operate like pneumatic actuators need compressor, air tank and control valves, which make the system very complex.
[007] As opposed to the current system, the proposed system of gear shifting using
lead screw mechanism is light weight, simple and easy to install. The said system have low response time with greater efficiency.
OBJECTIVES
[008] Following are the key objectives of the proposed system:-
1. Manual Transmission of gears is automated to make gear shifting convenient.
2. Eliminating the need to remember the position of gear shifter by implementing sequential gear shifter instead of the traditional gear shifter.
3. The objective is to make gear transmission faster by using an automated sequential gearbox.
4. Another objective is to allow the driver to have a maximum concentration on the road.
SUMMARY
[009] This summary is provided to introduce aspects related to system for
automating gear transmission and the aspects are further described below in the detailed description. This summary is not intended to identify essential features of subject matter nor is it intended for use in determining or limiting the scope of the subject matter.
[0010] As per this invention, the vehicles will be provided with buttons on the steering
wheel or steering handle which will facilitate gear shifting. Lead screw mechanism will be used to control and drive the sequential gear transmission. Lead screw will be connected to the gear lever. Linear motion of lead screw will push/pull gear lever to shift gear up/down. Lead screw nut will convert the rotary motion of driven shaft of motor into linear motion which in turn will

move gear lever. Limit switches are used to find exact position of gear lever and restrict its
movement to prevent breakage.
[0011] The system comprises of:
1. Two electronic push buttons mounted on the steering handle, one each for shifting the gears up and down.
2. The push buttons will be connected to a microcontroller which will activate the lead screw mechanism to transmit gears. It will also control complete transmission process.
3. Lead screw mechanism will be fitted on the gear box which will act to transmit gears on receiving a signal from the microcontroller.
4. The system will also consist of gear indicator, a display to show the current position of the gear. This will be mounted on the dashboard or could be integrated with the electronic speedometer.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS
[0012] The detailed description is described with reference to the accompanying
figures. In the figures, the left-most digit(s) of a reference number identifies the figure in which the reference number first appears. The same numbers are used throughout the drawings to refer like features and components.
[0013] Figure 1 shows the lead screw mechanism for shifting gears, in accordance
with an embodiment of the present subject matter.
[0014] Figure 2 is the block diagram of the system. It consists of four major
components namely the switch panel, microcontroller, gear shifting assembly and gear indicator, in accordance with an embodiment of the present subject matter.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS
[0015] System for automatic transmission of gears using lead screw mechanism is
described. In this invention, a system is provided in the geared automobile to facilitate gear shifting using push buttons mounted on the steering wheel or steering handle. The invention is based upon using electronically controlled lead screw to transmit gears sequentially. The r sequential gear box is provided for-seamless and fast transmission of gears. Gears will be shifted up or down by mere press of a button.

[0016] The principal part of the system will be the lead screw mechanism wherein
circular motion of the screw will be converted to linear motion of the screw nut which in turn will rotate the gear shaft to transmit gears. Limit switches will be placed to restrict the excess motion of screw nut and prevent breakage of gear shaft. The microcontroller will be the brain of the system, monitoring and controlling the whole system. The system is optimized to provide fast and efficient gear transmission.
[0017] The embodiments are described in the context of the following exemplary
system.
[0018] Referring to Figure 1, an implementation 110 of lead screw mechanism is
illustrated, in accordance with an embodiment of present subject matter. In this embodiment the system 110 comprise a prime mover that is an electric motor 101, lead screw apparatus wherein screw nut 103 slides on the screw 102. The prime mover will rotate the lead screw upon receiving signals from microcontroller using electric energy. The rotary motion of screw 102 is converted to the linear motion of screw nut 103. Lead screw will transmit power from motor to lead screw nut.
[0019] The screw nut 103 is connected to the gear lever 104 which in turn is joined to
the gear shaft for gear transmission. The gear lever rotates about the axis of gearbox shaft to transmit gears. The gear lever 104 is hinged to screw nut 103 on one end. Although gear lever is free on other end it has got limit switches/sensors 105 to restrict the motion beyond a threshold limit. Sensors will sense the physical parameter that is displacement of the gear lever and transmit a signal to microcontroller if the lead screw reaches threshold position. In this embodiment, three limit switches/sensors 105 is used to sense three different position that is left threshold, center and right threshold.
[0020] Referring to Figure 2, an implementation 210 of automate gear transmission
system is illustrated, in accordance with an embodiment of present subject matter. In this embodiment the system 210 comprise a switch panel 201 wherein two switches are provided which initiate the process of gear transmission. The switch panel 201 is mounted on steering wheel/handle for easy access. Upon pressing, the switch generate an electric signal which is .. :being transmitted.to the microcontroller2Q2.:

[0021] The microcontroller 202 is the control unit of the system. Every aspect of the
system is being monitored and controlled by the microcontroller 202. Upon receiving signal from switch panel 201 the microcontroller 202 operates lead screw mechanism 203 to transmit gear up or down accordingly. An electronic digital display 204 is mounted on the dashboard or speedometer to indicate current position of the gear.
