Abstract: A body weight of the patients is estimated based on the anthropometric measurements such as knee to foot (KTF) length (101) and middle upper arm " circumference (MUAC) which is measured using an IR sensor (102). A formula for estimating the body weight using two anthropometric measurements is derived using regression analysis (104) by correlating the knee to foot (KTF) length and middle .upper arm circumference (MUAC) which is obtained from a wide range"of population with weight. (Fig.1)
1. A portable automated system to estimate a weight of a subject based
on an anthropometric measurement comprises of;
a) A sensor (101, 102) to measure the anthropometric measurements such as knee to foot length and Middle Upper Arm Circumference;
b) A controller (103) is interfaced with the anthropometric data obtained from the sensors {101,102) in which the values are substituted into formula for weight calculation;
c) A display unit (106) displays the calculated weight of the subject.
2. The portable automated system to estimate the weight of the subject based on the anthropometric measurement according to claim (1), the anthropometric measurements such as-knee to foot length and Middle Upper Arm Circumference are measured using an IR sensor (101,102).
3. The portable automated system to estimate the weight of the subject based on the anthropometric measurement according to claim (1), the sensor is positioned at the knee and a movable reflector plate is used to position the plate parallel to the foot.
4. The portable automated system to estimate the weight of the subject based on the anthropometric measurement according to claim (1), both the sensors and the reflector are affixed to a base which gives the knee to foot length.
5. The portable automated system to estimate the weight of the subject based on the anthropometric measurement according to claim (1), the linear regression analysis (104) performed on data collected from the wide range of population takes the weight as a dependent variable and the knee to foot length and the Middle Upper Arm Circumference measurements as an independent variable to determine the regression coefficients.
6. The portable automated system to estimate the weight of the subject based on the anthropometric measurement according to claim (1), the body weight of the patient is measured by anthropometric methods, and the result is compared with the patients' actual weight.
7. The portable automated system to estimate the weight of the subject based on the anthropometric measurement according to claim (1), the sensors are an integrated combination of position sensitive detector, IR-LED (infrared emitting diode) and a signal processing circuit.
8. The portable automated system to estimate the weight of the subject based on the anthropometric measurement according to claim (1), by adopting a triangulation method variety of the reflectivity of the object, an environmental temperature and an operating duration are not influenced easily.
9. The portable automated system to estimate the weight of the subject based on the anthropometric measurement according to claim (1), a dosage required may also be displayed along with the weight in the display unit (106).
