Abstract: Note: this has to be prepared separately along with complete drafting after provisional filing. One of the major problems in developing countries is maintenance of roads. Well maintained roads contribute a major portion to the country's economy. Identification of pavement distress such as potholes and humps not only helps drivers to avoid accidents or vehicle damages but also helps authorities to maintain roads. This project discusses previous pothole detection methods that have been developed and proposes a cost effective solutions or identify potholes and humps on roads and provide timely alerts to drivers to avoid accidents or vehicle damages. LIDAR sensor is used to detect the presence of potholes and humps. We mount the LIDAR-sensor in front of bike to detect things in front of the Road. By using servomotor the LIDAR can move and scan a 180 degree area. The information the LIDAR part of prototype gathers makes it possible to detect objects from 180 meters. LIDAR-based systems provide an opportunity to improve safety dramatically because of their high speed and precision monitoring capabilities at relatively low computation and also, the geographical location coordinates of the potholes/humps is being locked and sent to the respective authorities with the help of GSM and GPS modules.
1. We Claim LIDAR provides the fast and exact detection of Poth holes and humps
2. We Claim that as mentioned in Claiml to combining servo motor with Lidar gives the 180 Degree Coverage in front of the vehicle
3. We Claim that as mentioned in Claim 2 to combining our module with GPS provides the location of pothole in the Road with exact co-ordinates.
4. We Claim that as mentioned in Claim 3 that updation of GPS co-ordinates for large potholes to the concerned Government authorities are possible.
