PREAMBLE TO THE DESCRIPTION
The following specification particularly describes the invention and the manner
in which it is to be performed.
FIELD OF INVENTION
The present invention is related to head rest of an automobile and more particularly it relates to an automatic head rest adjustment mechanism.
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION
Generally head rest mechanism is used in an automobile for comfort of passenger for resting their head. Typically head rests in an automobile are fixed to the top portion of the seat of a vehicle at predetermined position where passengers are supposed to seat. These types of head rest are fixed and can not be adjusted at passenger's comfort which doesn't suit all passengers.
During long drives or times of fatigue the driver may feel the need to adjust the head rest in a vertical and horizontal position. But it is very difficult to adjust the headrest while driving. In case of collision of the vehicle, injuries of the person's head occur as a result of a snapping back of the head.
OBJECTS OF INVENTION
The main object of the present invention is to provide automatic head rest of an automobile
Another object of the present invention is to provide an automatic head rest of an automobile which is simple in construction and cost effective.
Yet another object of the present invention is to provide an automatic head rest of an automobile to reduce injuries of the person in case of a collision of the vehicle which occur as a result of a snapping back of the head.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION
In accordance with the present invention, an automatic head rest mechanism and assembly thereof comprising: step motor (1) for power source, sector gear (2) coupled with the output shaft of said step motor, rack member (3) disposed vertically in the upright portion of seat, Fork member (4) attached to the top portion of said rack member, rolling friction means (5) for adjusting the height of head rest, head rest means (6) attached to said fork member with the help of pin, wherein said rolling friction means for adjusting the height of head rest is housed and mounted with said pin (8) of fork member such that head rest means (6) can be moved vertically for height adjustment.
STATEMENT OF INVENTION
This invention relates to an automatic head rest mechanism comprising; a step motor for power source; a rack and sector gear mechanism coupled with output shaft of said step motor for vertical height adjustment of head rest, said rack member being disposed vertically in the upright portion of a seat; a fork member of which one end is attached to top portion of said rack member; a rolling friction means for angularly adjustment of said head rest; wherein forked ends of said fork member, said rolling friction means and an extension member of said head rest are coupled together by a pin member, said step motor is interfaced with battery of vehicle and switch means for controlling the vehicle.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS
Figure-01 shows side view of automatic head rest mechanism mounted on seat of a
vehicle. Figure-02 shows rear view of head rest mechanism mounted on seat of a vehicle. Figure-03 shows side view of head rest mechanism. Figure-04 shows top view of head rest mechanism. Figure-05 shows rear view of head rest mechanism.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION
Referring now to the drawings wherein the showings are for the purpose of illustrating a preferred embodiment of the invention only, and not for the purpose of limiting the same,
Referring to figure-01 to 05 , In accordance with the present invention, an automatic head rest mechanism and assembly thereof comprising; step motor (1) for power source, rack member (3) and sector gear mechanism (2) coupled with the output shaft of said step motor, said rack member (3) being disposed vertically in the upright portion of seat, Fork member (4) of which one end is attached to the top portion of said rack member, rolling friction means (5) for angular adjustments of head rest means (6) , said head rest means (6) is attached to said fork member (4) with the help of pin, wherein said rolling friction means for providing angular adjustment of said head rest means (6) is housed and mounted with said pin (8) of fork member such that head rest means (6) can be moved in vertical angular direction for angular adjustments of said head rest means (6) at required angular position.
Wherein forked ends of said fork member, said rolling friction means and an extension member of said head rest are coupled together by a pin member, said step motor is interfaced with battery of vehicle and switch means for controlling the vehicle.
Sector Gear (2) and Rack member (3) are coupled with stepper motor provided for vertical adjustment of the head rest. Said stepper motor is interfaced with battery of vehicle. Said Rack member (3) is attached to the said Fork member (4).Said rack and sector gear assembly is housed inside the upright portion of said seat (7) of an automobile and the motion of said rack and sector gear is controlled with the help of D.C step motor (1) for vertical height adjustment. Said DC step motor is also interfaced with switch means for controlling the said stepper motor.
4
Pitching/ angular motion of said head rest means (6) is adjusted or controlled manually with the help of a rolling friction mechanism.
Said rolling friction mechanism comprises; at least two circular disc plates fitted at both side to lock the headrest extension rod member (11), at least two resilient means (9) which is torsion spring for applying the pressure to the said circular disc plates (5) which is mounted on said fork member with the help of pin (8) member.
wherein said circular disc plates comprises a first disc plate with radially outward protrusions (10) on the disc surface and a second disc plate with dimples (10') with guide channel (10") for matching said protrusions on the said first disc plate so as to enable angular adjustment and locking of said head rest at required position.
The said circular disc plates are assembled together with protrusion fitting in the said matching dimples.
For pitching/ angular movement, head rest is manually adjusted at required positioned which is locked with the help of protrusion and dimple on the said disc plates.
at least two resilient means such as torsion spring are provided between said circular disc plates and said forked ends of said fork member for applying pressure to said circular disc plates, said resilient means also being coupled to said forked ends of said fork member (4) and the circular disc plates by said pin member (8).
Locking of said head rest means (6) at required angular position is done with the help of pressure applied on the assembled circular disc plates by the said resilient member such as spring.
5
With the help of the said mechanism, the head rest means is capable of moving in vertical angular direction up to 270 degrees because of the freedom given by the rolling motion of the rolling friction mechanism.
In accordance with the present invention, assembly steps comprises
• Mounting the said motor rigidly inside the upright portion of seat with the help of screws bolts or stud ;
• Providing slot in the seat
• Disposing the rack member in the said slot
• Attaching fork member on top of rack member.
The foregoing description is a specific embodiment of the present invention. It should be appreciated that this embodiment is described for purpose of illustration only, and that numerous alterations and modifications may be practiced by those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. It is intended that all such modifications and alterations be included insofar as they come within the scope of the invention as claimed or the equivalents thereof.
