Description:Field of Invention
The present invention relates to the technical field of household kitchen appliance, more particularly to a low noise automatic mixer grinder with a micro-controller based program of multiple menus operable via an external device, providing automated process of grinding and mixing without human intervention.
Background of the Invention
In modern days many domestic kitchen appliances are used to prepare food. This includes blenders to food processors used for mixing, chopping, slicing, blending, beating etc. Such appliances are useful in reducing the physical effort in cooking and food preparation. A mixer grinder is one such appliance, an electro-mechanical device which helps the user to do mixing, grinding, juicing etc at ease. Traditionally, mixers are mainly used to mix relatively soft solids such as fruits and vegetables. Over the years, mixers have been extended even for harder foods such as meat. These solid or dried foods are much more difficult to break up and grind. Thus, there is an increasing demand for high performance mixers with stiffer blades that can mix or grind different types of food. In every mixer grinder there is an electric motor housed in a suitable enclosure with a provision to attach a mixing jar with appropriate cutting blades. In order to grind and mix different types of solid foods, a strong and powerful motor must be used to drive the blades of the mixer. However, various problems are associated with these high power motors which restrict their usage.
There exists several obvious problem associated with powerful motors such as motor overheating, increase in mixer size and weight, vibration of the motor and its associated noise and other safety concerns. The most two common problems reported widely with the domestic kitchen mixer grinder are the noise and the safety of operation. Accidental injuries like the finger getting injured have been reported in large numbers. This intensifies safety concerns for mixers with powerful motors, as it can seriously injure the user if the user accidentally touches the blade. Even if the mixer is properly designed, it can be a threat to the user, in particular to children, due to improper installation or unintended use. Secondly, the noise level of any mixer grinder available in the market is very high and thus this issue also requires significant attention. The vibrations not only causes the unpleasant sound and unwanted movement of the mixer but also create other safety and design issues. In general, mixers with noticeable vibrations and noise are undesirable and perceived by consumers as unreliable. Uncontrollable vibrations can cause the mixer to tip or fall. Vibration can also affect the normal rotation of the blade, which in turn reduces the efficiency of the mixer. Generally multiple speed options and safety devices for electric safety, over- current/temperature safety etc are provided with the mixer grinder. But these are all not very proactive in preventing the accidents. Therefore there exists a need to automate the process thereby limiting or avoiding the human intervention to avoid such accidents and also simultaneously reduce the noise level significantly.
Majority of mixer grinders available in the market uses an electromechanical rotary switch to control the speed of operation, which is directly related to the grinding/mixing performance. It has been conventional for mixers to have mechanical switches which permit two basic operational functions. First function is a regular grinding where the switch is placed in an “on” position the drive motor runs constantly at a particular speed until the switch is removed from the “on” position. There may be multiple speed options available in the first regular grinding function. Second function is a “momentary” or “pulse” operation where the drive motor is energized as long as the switch is held in the “pulse” position. The various available mixing speeds are primarily driven by a motor through combinations of gears and/or belts and/or variable adjustable pulleys, where mechanical adjustments are made to change mix speeds. Such mixer grinder require that the mixer be stopped in order to change speeds. This arrangement for controlling the drive motor of a mixer requires the user to closely attend the operation and manually control the “pulse” pattern to achieve the desired performance. Since these mixers typically do not include any indication of the duration of a manually controlled cycle, the user may have difficulty reproducing a successful cycle. Regular intervention of user is required to open the jar lid, check the grinding / mixing level of food stuff, stir occasionally, close the lid and re-start the mixer. Further these mixers does not include any safety mechanism related to the feeding chute. Therefore, the motor remains running even when the feeding chute is in open position, for example, to add ingredients.
There is no guide lines available for mixing operations but is carried out by trial and error and on-job experience. Often mixing/grinding involves very specific operations, thereby providing a consistently good result. This may involve controlling variables including specifying the amount of ingredients, the speed, the duration, and other parameters in which ingredients are processed, mixed or grinded. Some recipes require mixing ingredients, then adding further ingredients to the mix, and subsequently, additional mixing. Therefore, the user may be required to turn on the mixer more than once, in particular where the mixing attachments do not readily allow the addition of certain ingredients into the mixing bowl when in motion and the user may need to stop, open the head, change, or clean the mixing attachment(s). It would be desirable to provide a kitchen appliance where the user can easily control these input variables, thereby assisting the user to produce a consistent result.
There exists several prior arts providing mixer grinder with several functions, few are described below
Chinese patent 104873114 provides a kind of low vibration, low voice Full-automatic grinder and its method of work, including a nose assembly with an upper and lower abrasive disk for grinding one another, and the slow speed motor for driving upper and lower abrasive disk relative rotation; The side of the upper and lower abrasive disk is provided with temperature sensor, and the temperature sensor is connected with one of the intelligent circuit board of slow speed motor rotating speed according to the temperature control that the temperature sensor is measured. Extrusion technique is applied in crushing the food stuffs, and the temperature of the upper and lower abrasive disk measured according to temperature sensor using intelligent circuit board controls the slow speed motor rotating speed, influence of the excessive heat to foodstuff quality is avoided, while avoiding every drawback caused by conventional high rate cutting foodstuff.
US Patent 6397735 discloses a food processor with an electronic motor control and display. Time relevant to the operation of the food processor are displayed for reference by the user. A user can select a food processing cycle duration, in which case the display is operated in a count-down mode. If no duration is selected, the display is operated in a count-up mode. Measured motor speed is used by a microprocessor based motor control circuit to regulate power delivered to the drive motor. A programmed auto pulse function delivers power to the drive motor in an on off pattern, freeing the user's hands. A safety switch is arranged to sense the presence or absence of the food pusher in the chute. Operation of the food processor drive motor is paused until the food pusher is replaced in the chute. The food processor is provided with a high-speed function.
An Indian patent application 04664/CHE/2014 discloses a method and a control circuit for controlling a grinder. The control circuit comprises a mode select unit to select a mode of operation of the grinder, a timer unit comprising a down timer for selecting a time duration for which the grinder operates, a speed control unit to select an operating speed of the grinder and a control unit to operate grinder by activating a motor based on inputs received from at least one of the mode select unit, timer and speed control unit, the control unit performs one of operating the motor after the time duration set by up-timer or directly operating the motor for a time duration set up by up-timer. The disclosed grinder has lacunae wherein user can select the required speed and time of operation but it is necessary to know the requirement in terms of speed and time of operation for each grinding/mixing operation.
Another US patent 3612969 discloses an automatic blending solution for blenders for food preparation. It discloses an automatic blender that can be programmed to perform a variety of tasks with perforated recipe card. The card bearing the desired recipe is inserted between a printed circuit control board and an assembly of spring brushes so that the perforations allow only selected brushes to make electrical contact with the PCB. The blender START push button and power switch are also actuated by the recipe card, so the blender has no external controls. The disclosure explains a digital card with recopies which can be inserted into the blender. This has limited use particularly in blending and cannot support other dry grinding, wet grinding etc. Moreover this is more expensive due the need of digital card reader and related electronic control methods. This also requires additional brushes to make electrical contact with the printed circuit board. This can affect the reliability of the blender in long run.

In particular the present invention provides an automatic mixer grinder with a micro-controller based program of multiple menus operable via an external device thereby automating the process of grinding and mixing. Further the present invention provides a mixer grinder with reduced noise level by its unique design. In addition the automatic mixer grinder of the present invention is provided with a mountable tower blade design thereby providing a uniform grinding at a relatively slow speed. This eliminates overheating and the food is mixed or grinded at a low temperature thereby preserving the nutrients, flavours and the aroma of the food ingredients.
