Abstract: The system consisting of a table lor positioning the tender coconut a prime mover for rotating the job and a block assembly containing a guide block and a set of slide blocks on top of which the knife block has been hinged. The two knife blocks have been provided with knife assembly. The block assembly is driven by an auxiliary motor Hie process starts when the operator starts the main motor. When the auxiliary motor is switched on the block assembly starts rotating and the knife starts moving. The operator then brings both the knives to the periphery of the job; pierce the knife into the job; and locks the knife holding plate into the knife block. Guided by the longitudinal and lateral guides, the hinged knife block on the front side always maintains its axis at right angle to the object, keeping the knife position always at right angle to the job. The parallel connection between the two hinged knife blocks maintains the other knife block in the exact similar position on the opposite side. The auxiliary drive keeps the knives moving horn one end of the job towards the center in an arc and simultaneously peeling both the halves of the coconut to an attractive circular shape, chopping both ends, retaining a thin layer of husk all round for protecting the coconut shell, at the rate of about 100 coconuts per hour. The attractive shape and the reduced volume of the coconut has excellent demand in the local and the foreign markets as well. The fine granules of the husk removed can be easily ground into powder and can be sold as an animal feed. The machine is a portable one and can be easily moved to any location to cater the market demand
AN AUTOMATIC MACHINE
for Peeling Tender Coconut retaining a thin layer of husk all round, and carving the periphery to an attractive circular shape.
The equipment basically cona&s of an operating table on top of which the coconut has been fixed between a driving head stock, and a supporting tail stock which can be moved in and out. The geared Elect Motor attached to the head stock keeps the coconut revolving at approximately 200 revolutions per minute. The knives attached to the two tinged knife blocks move in an arc from the longitudes axis of the job to the lateral axis by means of a revolving guide block carrying a sliding block on each end, on top of which the krife block has been hinged. The guide block is driven by an auxiliary geared motor through a ring gear, at about two revolutions pear minute. The lateral and the longitudinal guides provided to the hinged knife Mock on front side keeps the axis of the knife always at right angle to the axis of the job. The two hinged knife blocks are connected by means of two parallel rods, hinged at either end to form a parallelogram, so that the axis of the two hinged knife blocks and the knife on either ade will be always at right angle to the longitudinal axis of the job.
The invention is more clearly described below with reference to the accompanying drawings In sheet no.l, figure 1, is the front view of the machine. Part 1 is the main geared motor. Part 2 is the auxiliaiy motor. Part 3 is Ihe main body of the machine. Part 4 is the ring gear through which the auxiliary motor drives the guide block. Part 5 is the base plate of the machine. Part 6 is the guide block. Part 7 is the sliding block on rear ade which slides in and out along the guide block. Part 8 is the rear side knife block which has been hinged to the rear side sliding block and carries the knife assembly. Part 9 is the knife holding plate which can be locked on to the hinged knife block. Part 10 is the tale stock ibr supporting the job. Part II is the knife. Part 12 is the job fixed between the headstock and the tailstock. Part 13 is the handle for moving and locking the knife holding plate on to the hinged knife block. Part 14 is the driving headstock.
In sheet no.2 Figure 2 is the top view of the revolving block assembly with the knives, the longitudinal guide and the lateral guide. Part 1 is the left side lateral guide fixed on the hinged knife block. Part 2 is the guide block for the longitudinal guide. Part 3 is the longitudinal guide. Part 4 is the right side support ibr the longitudinal guide. Part 5 is one of the hinged connecting rods for connecting two hinged knife blocks. Part 6 is the hinge point for the rear side knife Hock. Part 7 is the rear side-sliding block. Part 8 is the hinged knife block. Part 9 is the knife holding plate. Part 10 is one of the hinge points for the connecting rods Part 11 is the knife.
To begin the operation, start the main motor and then the auxiliary motor. The operator then holds the handles attached to the knife holding plates and simultaneously brings both the knives to the periphery, at both ends of the job; pierce the knife into the job; and locks the knife holding plate into the knife block. By the time the guide block revolves through a quarter of a revolution, knife attached to the front side block would have shaped the left half of the coconut, and the rear knife the right half of the coconut, resulting in the total peeling of the coconut, retaining a thin layer of husk all round, and carving the periphery into an attractive circular shape, chopping both ends. The machine can peel about 100 tender coconuts per hour.
Claim.
1. An automatic peeling machine for tender coconuts, by rotating the coconut with the help of a prime mover and simultaneous moving the knife in an arc, maintaining the knife poation always at right angle to the job, which peeis the coconut to an attractive round shape, chopping both ends; at the same time retaining a thin layer of the coconut husk ail round for protecting the shell of the coconut.
