Abstract: Aircraft has a main power supply for providing electrical power to various LRUs. In case main power supply is absent, Energy Storage cell is able to provide power supply for driving some of LRUs related to Flight Data Recorder. Backup PCB is the back bone of Energy Storage Cell. Backup PCB is a device or physical media that store some form of energy to perform some useful operation at a later time.
1. FIELD OF THE INVENTION
To provide the backup power to various LRUs related to Flight Data Recorder in absence of
main power supply of aircraft.
2. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Aircraft has a main power supply and a backup supply in case of emergency. If a case
happened where both power supply are not working and aircraft is flying. In that case no
data will be recorded in the Flight Data Recorder. Backup PCB is designed for providing
power to Flight Data Recorder in that case.
3. SUMMARY OF PRESENT INVENTION
For providing the backup power, backup PCB is designed with the help of super capacitor.
Here, a series of super capacitor bank is used to store energy through power resistors.
Energy Storage Capacitor bank consists of number of such super capacitors. This circuit
provides supply to various LRUs related to Flight Data Recorder.

Figure 2: It shows the block diagram of Backup PCB.
5. DETAILED DESCRIPTION
Backup PCB is a device or physical media that store some form of energy to perform some
useful operation at a later time. To store energy super capacitors are being used, it
represents the actual storage devices being able to provide high power density as compared
to battery. It is also applicable for high rate of charging and discharging operation.
A super capacitor is an electrochemical capacitor that has an unusually high energy density
when compared to common capacitors, typically on the order of thousands of times greater than a high capacity electrolytic capacitor. The same size electric double-layer capacitor
would have a capacitance of several farads, but usually at a lower working voltage.
In backup PCB, a series of 12 super capacitors is used to store energy through power
resistor. It follow the principle of τ = RC for charging and discharging super capacitor as
shown in figure 1. After time ie τ = RC the super capacitor bank stop charging and whenever
backup power is required it starts discharging till it gets fully discharge.
