BATTERY CASE FOR A SCOOTER TYPE VEHICLE
FIELD OF INVENTION
[0001] The present invention relates to a battery case for a scooter
type vehicle and more particularly to a battery case, with a luggage hook integrated to it.
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION
[0002] Conventional scooter type vehicles are provided with a battery
for supplying electrical energy to the vehicle. The battery, typically lead acid type, powers the starter motor, the lighting system and the ignition system of the vehicle. The battery is held in a battery case, which is mounted to the frame and is generally arranged below the seat of the vehicle. Scooter type vehicles are also provided with a luggage hook. Luggage hook is a comfort feature and has been provided so as to enable the rider to carry low weight loads easily. The strap of the article to be carried is hooked to the luggage hook.
[0003] In a conventional scooter type vehicle, the luggage hook is a
separate part and is fastened to the frame below the vehicle seat and near the seat hinge. In such an arrangement, due to the height at which the luggage hook is fastened with respect to the floor of the vehicle, there is a possibility of the hung article swinging about the luggage hook during travel, depending on the hung state. This leads to instability of the hung article during running of the vehicle.
[0004] Further, since the luggage hook is a separate part and is
fastened to the frame, there is an increase in part count, cost, and assembly time. Therefore to obviate defects in the prior art, there is a requirement for an alternate arrangement for the luggage hook of a scooter type vehicle and this forms the principle objective of the present invention.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0005] In the current invention, a battery case mounted on the frame of
a vehicle is disclosed. The battery case is characterized by a unique feature of being equipped with a material projection, which can be used for hanging luggage while the vehicle is in use. The current luggage hook is further characterized by being incorporated and integrated into the battery case.
[0006] For aesthetic purpose, the battery parts in a two wheeler are
generally covered by style parts, in the same way, the battery in the current invention is also covered by a style part called the front cover, and this front cover is characterized by having openings for mainly two purposes, the first purpose is to provide an opening for providing access to the luggage hook for hanging luggage and the second purpose is to provide air flow on to the cylinder head for providing cooling effect, since the cylinder head is placed just behind the front cover.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[00013] A conventional scooter type vehicle as illustrated in Figure 1
has a body frame 11 comprising a head pipe 12 positioned at the front of the body frame 11, and a down tube 67 extending downwardly rearward from a rear lower portion of the head pipe 12, in a substantially horizontal direction. A pair of side tubes 15 arranged side by side extends obliquely upward from the down tube in the rearward direction. A handle bar 13 is attached to the head pipe 12. The lower end of handle bar 20 is attached to a front fork 23, and a front wheel 91 is movably supported by the lower end of the front fork 23.
[00014] Furthermore, a handle bar cover 61 is attached for covering the
handle bar 13, and a head lamp 30 is attached to the handle bar cover 61. A front fender 33 is arranged in such a manner that it covers the upper portion of the front wheel 91. A rear wheel 10 is attached to the rear end of the body frame 11 and a rear fender 36 is attached in a way that it covers the upper portion of the rear wheel 10. A storage box 50 for storing articles is disposed above the side tubes 15. Further, a driver seat 27 commonly serving as a lid for the storage box 50 is placed above the storage box 50 in a manner to be freely opened and closed, and a fuel tank 28 is arranged towards the rear of the storage box 50.
[00015] An engine unit 14 is arranged in substantially central lower
portion of the side tubes 15. By arranging a cushion 25 between the engine unit 14 and the rear part of the body frame 11, rear suspension is provided for the scooter. A pillion handle 90 is attached to the rear end of side frames 15. Furthermore, a tail lamp 35 is arranged below the pillion handle 90. There is a low step floor 16 provided between the seat 27 and the head pipe 12. The rider places his/her foot on the low step floor 16 at the time of travel. The step floor 16 also covers the horizontal portion of the down tube 67 from the above and is fixed to the down tube 67.
[00016] Referring to Figure 2 and Figure 3, and Figure 4, the battery
case 100 for a scooter type vehicle as per the present invention comprises a battery retainer 102, at least two battery case mounting lugs 103 and an electrical mounting lug 104 and is characterized by a luggage hook 101 integrated to the outer periphery of the battery case 100. The battery retainer 102 accommodates the vehicle battery 109 (Figure 4). The battery case mounting lugs 103 mounts the battery case 100 to a frame of a scooter type vehicle and the electrical mounting lug 104 mounts various electrical components such as starter relay etc.
[00017] The frame of the scooter type vehicle further comprises a head
pipe 105, a down tube 106, a pair of side tubes 107 and a bridge member 108. The down tube 106 extends downwardly rearward from the head pipe 105 and the pair of side tubes 107 extends obliquely upward from the down tube 106 in the rearward direction. The bridge member 108 connects the pair of side tubes 107. The battery case 100 being mounted on the bridge member 108 (as illustrated in Figure 4).
[00018] The luggage hook 101 is preferably L shaped and is arranged
on the scooter type vehicle in such a manner that it protrudes through an opening of a front cover 110 as illustrated in Figure 5 and Figure 6. The front cover 110 is a style part and covers the inner structural parts of the scooter type vehicle. The opening for luggage hook 101 provided on the front cover 110 facilitates cooling and prevents warming up of the engine unit, utility box and other surrounding parts of the vehicle.
[00019] The present invention hence eliminates assembly of luggage
hook using fasteners. Therefore, part count and assembly time has been reduced thereby optimizing costs. Vehicle cooling has been enhanced due to the opening on the front cover as mentioned above. Since the height of the luggage hook with respect to the floor of the vehicle has been reduced, drawbacks in the prior art with regard to stability of the hung articles have been avoided.
We claim:
1. A battery case for a scooter type vehicle comprising:
a battery retainer, which accommodates a vehicle battery;
at least one electrical component mounting lug which mounts electrical components;
