Battery Management Unit And Battery Pack Including Same

Abstract: A battery management unit and a battery management system including the same are disclosed. The battery management unit comprises: a sensing unit which is electrically connected to a plurality of battery cells detects the voltage of each of the plurality of battery cells and outputs a detection signal including voltage information indicating the detected voltage; a first power supply unit for generating a first operating voltage by using a module voltage of the battery module; and a communication unit which operates using the first operating voltage includes an antenna a wireless communication circuit and a first input port receives the detection signal from the sensing unit through the first input port performs a test on at least one predetermined item on the basis of the detection signal and outputs through the antenna and the wireless communication circuit an RF signal indicating a result of the test.

Specification

We Claim:
1. A battery management unit for a battery module including a plurality of
battery cells, the battery management unit comprising:
a sensing unit electrically connected to the plurality of battery cells, and configured to detect voltage of each of the plurality of battery cells and output a detection signal including voltage information representing the detected voltages;
a first power supply unit configured to generate a first operating voltage using a module voltage of the battery module; and
a communication unit which operates using the first operating voltage, the communication unit including an antenna, a wireless communication circuit and a first input port, and configured to receive the detection signal from the sensing unit through the first input port, test at least one preset item based on the detection signal, and output a RF signal indicating a result of the test through the antenna and the wireless communication circuit.
2. The battery management unit according to claim 1, further comprising:
a second power supply unit having a power source terminal, and configured to convert a power source voltage of a power source to a second operating voltage when the power source is connected to the power source terminal; and
a control unit which operates using the second operating voltage, and configured to output a control signal for controlling the sensing unit based on the detection signal.

3. The battery management unit according to claim 2, further comprising:
an isolation unit which operates using the first operating voltage and the second operating voltage,
wherein the isolation unit includes a first isolation circuit configured to relay communication between the communication unit and the control unit.
4. The battery management unit according to claim 3, wherein the isolation
unit further comprises:
a second isolation circuit which operates using the first operating voltage and the second operating voltage, and configured to relay communication between the sensing unit and the control unit.
5. The battery management unit according to claim 4, wherein the second
isolation circuit comprises:
a number of isolation elements that is equal to or larger than a number of battery cells included in the battery module.
6. The battery management unit according to claim 5, wherein the isolation element is a digital isolator, an opto coupler or a RF isolator.
7. The battery management unit according to claim 1, wherein the sensing unit and the communication unit communicate with each other via UART mode.

8. The battery management unit according to claim 2, wherein the sensing unit and the control unit communicate with each other via SPI mode.
9. The battery management unit according to claim 2, wherein the control unit configured to output a switching signal to the communication unit when the second power voltage is supplied, and
the communication unit further includes a second input port, and configured to inactivate the first input port when the switching signal is received through the second input port.
10. A battery pack comprising:
the battery management unit according to any of claims 1 to 9.
