Specification

Battery Mounting for Scooter Vehicle

Field of the Invention:

The present invention relates to battery mounting structure for a scooter type vehicle and more particularly for a hybrid vehicle.

Background of the Invention:

Conventionally, a vehicle has a large battery for driving an electric motor. Due to the size of the battery, it is difficult to obtain an adequate location and structure for mounting the battery to the vehicle frame. Already known in the art is a mounting structure and location in a scooter vehicle in which a front frame extends diagonally downward from a head pipe towards the rear of the body and in which a battery Is provided along the front frame. In another known art the front pipe extends diagonally downward from a head pipe towards the rear of the body, herein the components are arranged on the frame so that the bottom of a battery box is fastened to a bracket welded to the front pipe by a bolt.

In all this kind of arrangement, the battery box since arranged in a closed space, heat is easily and quickly accumulated.

In other set of known arrangements the battery is placed inside the utility box, the utility box size is reduced by this arrangement of battery and more over a battery for hybrid vehicle which is generally of a larger size cannot be accommodated inside the utility box.

Therefore, the present invention tries to overcome the prior art problem and provide a desirable means for effectively cooling the battery of a hybrid vehicle in actual applications since it generates heat at the time of charging and discharging.

Summary of the Invention:

An object of the present invention is to provide to a battery mounting structure which does not affect the utility box luggage space.

Another object of the present invention is to provide a battery mounting structure which provides better frame strength for carrying the load of battery.

Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a low gravity level to the battery for a hybrid vehicle.

Further object of the present invention is to provide centre of gravity of the vehicle at the centre plane and forward of the vehicle to improve the control and stability with such battery arrangement.

Yet further object of the present invention is to provide a batter cooling means for the battery.

Brief description of the Drawings:

The present invention will become more fully understood from the detailed description given herein below and the accompanying drawings which are given by way of illustration only, and thus are not limitative of the present invention, and wherein

Figure 1 shows a conventional scooter type vehicle.

Figure 2 shows battery mounting structure for scooter vehicle according to the present invention.

Detailed Description of the Drawings:

The present invention now will be described more fully hereinafter with different embodiments. This invention may, however, be embodied in many different forms and should not be construed as limited to the embodiments set forth herein; rather those embodiments are provided so that this disclosure will be thorough and complete, and fully convey the scope of the invention to those skilled in the art.

With reference to Figure 1, 1 is a front wheel, 2 denotes a front fork, 3 denotes a front fender, 4 denotes a front cover, 5 denotes a leg shield made of resin or metal, 6 denotes a handle bar cover, 7 denotes a headlight, 8 denotes a handle bar ,17 denotes a rear fender and 18 denotes tail lamp.

The center of the body forms a low floor board 9 for functioning as a part for putting feet and a under cowl 10 which is located below the rider's seat and covers at least a part of the engine, The under cowl is made up of metal or resin. The under cowl is hinged to the seat 11. A utility box 12 opens from the rear end to hinged portion. The utility box 12 is provided under the seat extending longitudinally of a vehicle body and the inside of the utility box has a large capacity so that a large article can be housed. A main frame 14 extended along the center of the body before and behind and made of a metallic pipe and is provided under the floor board 9. A swing type power unit 13 is coupled to the rear end of the main frame 14.

A rear wheel 15 is supported on one side of the rear end of the swing type power unit 13. The swing type power unit 13 is suspended in the rear of a body frame.

The side covers 16 both on left and right sides, covers the utility box 12 and other parts of the vehicle, thereby providing a good appearance to the vehicle.

According to one embodiment of the present invention and referring to Figure 2, battery mounting structure for hybrid scooter type vehicle comprises atleast two support tubes 201, 202 extending from two side tubes 203, 204; atleast two support brackets 206, 207 provided on the side tubes 203, 204 and in sequence behind the support tubes 201, 202 towards the rear of the vehicle; and a tray 208 configured to be attached to the support tubes 201,202 and support brackets 206, 207. The battery 209 is placed in the tray 208, and the top of battery 209 is covered by seat of the vehicle. A controller 210 is placed on one of the side tubes. The controller is preferably placed on the right side tube 204 of the vehicle.

The said support tubes 201, 202 extend vertically upwards from the side tubes 203, 204 and are welded to the tray. The horizontal movement of the battery is restricted by the tray 208 design and the vertical movement of the battery 209 is restricted by the seat which extends up to the top of the battery 209.

For this type of configuration when the controller 210 is placed on the side tube 204 and above the silencer (when the vehicle is viewed from the side, the front wheel is on the left side and rear wheel on the right side), it provides an ease in wiring the connection between the controller 210 and battery 209.

The battery 209 when placed in front of the utility box provides a better cooling of the battery 209 while charging and discharging. The cover which covers the front side of the battery 209 can be provided with grills or similar openings for letting the atmosphere air into it.

Since the battery 209 of a hybrid vehicle is substantially bigger in size the support tubes 201, 202 provide the adequate strength to the frame to take the load of the battery 209.

The invention being thus described, it will be obvious that the same may be varied in many ways. Such variations are not to be regarded as a departure from the spirit and scope of the invention, and all such modifications as would be obvious to one skilled in the art are intended to be included within the scope of the claims.

We Claim:
