Abstract: Printed circuit boards are the main building block of electronic system. Resistances are one of the main components used in printed circuit board assembly. Placing resistances with proper length of the leg is important for assembly. This resistance bending tool invented helps in this purpose by providing the easy way of folding the legs of resistances and helps to save the time.
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
This invention is concerned with the proper assembly of the resistors in printed
circuit board.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Printed circuit board population is the heart of the electronic units. Compact,
beautiful and proper insertions of the components in the printed circuit board are some
of the important aspects which are crucial in assembly of printed circuit boards. In
various phase of production of electronics units, assembly over printed circuit boards
was done in which components were inserted by taking the assumptions of the length
and size of space availability on the printed circuit board for that component. The
resistor which is purchased from OEM requires proper formation of leg before placing it
on printed circuit board. These are bought in bulk. In every printed circuit board, at
different places requirement of the length of the legs of the resistances are different. At
some places, resistances are required to be placed with very short leg and at some
places with full length as per the circuit requirement, printed circuit board compactness
and space available for placing the resistances on printed circuit board. In conventional
method, when printed circuit boards were designed, the resistances were placed just by
hand measurement. Due to the approximate bending, measurement and placement of
the resistances, sometime the resistances cannot be placed in the proper position on
printed circuit board and sometime cutting of length of leg remains improper. This
method of assembly is time consuming also. So, here comes the requirement of a
bending tool. In addition, resistance bending tool can be used for different pattern of leg
bending.

The present invention is a general purpose resistance leg bending tool and solve
all the above said problems during manual operation.
SUMMARY OF PRESENT INVENTION
Present invention is concerned with the assembly part of the printed circuit
boards. These printed circuit boards are used in the different electronic equipments.
In accordance with one aspect of the present invention is to provide the tool used
for resistance bending.
In accordance with another aspect of the present invention is to provide a
resistance bending tool which is not printed circuit board specific, that is, for resistances
used in printed circuit board assembly of any electronic equipments can be bended as
per requirement.
In accordance with another aspect of the present invention is to provide a
resistance bending tool which can increase the accuracy in positioning of the assembly
of the resistances in the printed circuit boards.
In accordance with another aspect of the present invention is to provide a
resistance bending tool which can make the assemblers work easier.
In accordance with another aspect of the present invention is to provide a
resistance bending tool to save the time of the assembler.
In accordance with another aspect of the present invention is to provide a
resistance bending tool which can be used by even lesser skilled individuals.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
Printed circuit boards are the base for all kind of the electronic industry. Improper
placement of components degrades strength, utilization of space available on printed
circuit board and creates EMI/EMC interference.
To complete these purposes, right component at the right position of right size is
crucial. Problem with placing of resistances on printed circuit boards is solved by
resistance bending tool.
In printed circuit board, holes are available for inserting the component. Spacing
between the holes at different places of printed circuit boards are of different sizes. So
for putting resistances properly, this resistance bending tool is designed in such a way
that resistance’s leg can be bended at different lengths as per our requirement of
assembly.
As shown in the figure 1 of resistance bending tool, it consist of two jaws. One
jaw is moveable type which is fixed over the two rods of the fixture. These rods moves
to and fro causing jaw movement. And other jaw is fixed over the base of the resistance
bending tool and have a screw in it. This screw mounted on fix jaw is used to stop the
movable jaw at the desirable place as per our requirement. Both jaws are having slots
at defined distance and grooves of the slots of same size. Marking of the distances in
between the jaws is written over the fix jaw of resistance bending tool as shown in the
fig 2.
For bending the resistances, firstly jaws are fixed at certain distance as per our
requirement. After that, resistances are put in the slots and are bended so that angle of
bending remains 90 degrees. Thus, without any approximations, resistances with
bended leg of exact length are obtained.

Bending tool for resistors used in various printed circuit boards in electronics industry.
1. The bending tool, comprising
- A fixed jaw with suitable groove & nut, having rectangular shape at one end and triangular shape at another end,
- A movable jaw with suitable groove, having triangular shape at one end and a rectangular shape at another end,
- A rod fixed with both the jaws, used to move one jaw &
- A base to support both the jaws
2. The bending tool as per claim 1, capable of bending legs of components like resistors as per requirement.
3. The bending tool as per claim 1, used to improve the quality and facilitate user by reducing lead time.
4. The bending tool as per claim 1, wherein adjustable slots are used to bend the components like resistance.
