BIOMASS WASHER
FIELD OF THE INVENTION:
G>
This Invention relates to an equipment for removal of Sand, Mud, Stones, Adherent Silica, Chlorides, Ash, Soluble Salts, Gums and other Inherent materials frorrrthe Biomass like Wheat Straw, Rice Straw, Bagasse, Corn Stalk, Cotton Stalk, Corn Cobs, Sarkanda, Wood chips, etc., and to make it suitable for Bio Ethanol, Food grade Pulp & Paper production. The presence of these materials affects the Pulp production process^and falso\,the Biomass to Ethanol conversion in the Hydrolysis process by consuming aSditibnal-chemicals, power, steam & water.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION:
Biomass like Wheat Straw, Rice Straw, Bagasse, 'Corn Stalk, Cotton Stalk, Sarkanda, Corn cobs, Wood chips etc., are collected'Mrom the_Jields and hence comes with many contraries like Sand, Mud, Stones, Adherent/Silica/Asn> Further due to usage of Pesticides and fungicides for the crops the remains,of-the"Used chemicals stick with the Biomass. As a result of which the Biomass has Soluble Salfs^Chlorides etc.; These contraries needs to be removed before making pulp / bio ethanol especially^while making food grade pulp.
Wet Cleaning equipments like Hydra pulpers, Paddle Washers are known to be used for removal of Inherent materials in>theJ3iomass. In these equipments the Biomass is washed and beaten up to loosen thet contraries. The beaten Biomass and the contraries are together discharged at the.same tirrje^By doing so most of the Biomass is drained out along with the contraries.
Similar equipment like Paddle washers, which are used for removing contraries from the Biomass has a gentle slope at the Bottom Trough. A scavenging chain provided at the bottom of the trough removes the settled contraries to a Dual Discharge chute at the bottom. Very Frequent maintenance of the equipment is required due to issues like Chain getting stuck up & corrosion of the chain. This leads to frequent stoppage of the system and hence reducing the production rate.

Likewise due to lack of sufficient discharge of the contraries at a very frequent rates, the contraries are taken over along with the Biomass to the next stage of the production process. Where the presence of these contraries causes the system an additional power, steam and water consumption. Thereby affecting the productivity and end product quality. ^
BIOMASS WASHER has been designed with the following concept.
1. Efficient washing of the Biomass and for removal of contraries^
2. Very less Loss of Biomass along with the contraries drained afthe'bottom of Washer.
3. Sufficient time provision for settlement of Contraries by gravity and no moving parts.
4. Timely and automatic removal of heavy contraries at thesbottonriv^
5. Single equipment with combination of Biomass was'hlngN"& contraries removal.

being to remove 85% of ContrariesJrdm Biomass and make it available for Pulp & Bio Ethanol
gj) production with the following advantag'es.^V
1. Biomass with heavy contraries>chloride & Adherent silica content can be washed efficiently. The washed Biomass (witK^5%Nrempval of contraries) can be processed further for Pulp'& Bio Ethanol production. v'v )i
2. The heavy contraries settle_d-at the bottom are removed automatically by Timer based Valves.

3. The water (drained out of the Biomass washer can be reused back in the equipment thus making the water requirement less. , 4. The Rollers provided in the equipment Beats, washes and conveys the Biomass at a time in an efficient way
5. The Variable speed driven Rollers are provided for treating different Biomass content with variable agitating speeds thus enabling the flow of the Biomass in a uniform and controlled way.
Jji 6. Problem Free running of the equipment with less rotating part and less maintenance, thus
c

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION:
.£s.«jN,
The Invention provides an equipment for the Efficient washing of Biomass. The washed Biomass will have less Contraries (85% removal) thus making it suitable rcr-vHydrolysis process in the Bio Ethanol production & for the Digestion Process in the Pulp ProduetionsBased on the requirement of the End Biomass product, the removal efficiency can, be/urther/enhanced to 92% by an additional stage washer. The wash water co1lected/af1he end of the washer is
recycled back in the equipment with certain amount of purging^ne^resh.water. Hence the water consumption for the system is very much reduced. The ChemidalvSteam, Water and Power

EQUIPMENT OPERATION:
The Biomass (Bagasse, Wheat Straw Rice Straw, Cotton Stalk, Sarkanda, Corn Stalk,
g) Corn Cobs, Wood Chips) is fed intonrve^Feeding chute (S.No. 1) of the Biomass Washer (Not
shown in the drawing) by a Belt'Gbnve.yor at the top. The Biomass is diluted by addition of
Fresh Water or recycled water\fedjn the Feeding chute through a pipeline (Not shown in the
r^ drawing). The diluted Biomass is agitated and rinsed by two Agitating rollers (S.No. 4). Due to
the heavy agitation action thejcontraries sticking to the Biomass gets loosened and heavy particles get settled^dowrVb.y^gravity to the bottom of the first angled bottom trough (S.No. 3). These settled heavy particles passes through the Discharge Chute (S.No. 9) and are periodically removed_byythe timer based Junk Trap valves (S.No. 7). Water is Sprayed periodically through the Water spray connection (S. No. 11) provided in the Discharge chute for keeping the chute clean without jamming. Further due to the agitation action of the Agitating Rollers the chlorides in the Biomass fiber gets dissolved, washed and removed with the wash ■ water.
