The following specification particularly describes the nature of the invention and the manner in which it is to be performed:

Set top boxes with recording and storage facility are prevailing in the market. Typically, they are interfaced with the display unit on one hand and to the content retrieving mechanism at the other end.
Conventionally the standard or HD content as requested and permitted for the subscriber is piped through combination aforesaid hardware for viewing on the display unit. The drawback of such STBs are its operation by unauthorized subscriber, multiple number of viewing than permitted, unethical recording leading to piracy, loss of revenue due to imitation of identities of subscriber, insecurity due to freedom of access to content meant for a class/gender/age group/ethnicity of subscriber to any operator etc.
Inventors have come out with a unique primary generation of set top box with built in swipe card reader. The user has to swipe the smart to activate the embedded library and transaction module. The intelligent software module displays index / library of available with corresponding tariff, duration etc. Subscriber's can choose content of his choice by confirming the option on GUI of display. Accordingly she will be billed automatically,
However, the imitation of identity is prevented by incorporating the biometric based identification such as finger print of the subscriber. Hence generation of this set top box has built in finger print reader which can identify the finger print pattern which is unique with an individual subscriber.
Initially a master and legal subscriber as per the rule based system is requested to access the set top box by registering middle/index finger of his left / right hand or event multiple finger of same person can be registered. Instead of conventional password based access, here the authentication comprises of unique combination of the finger print coupled with smart card id. As defined in the system, initially for a new master subscriber's choice of finger(s) will be scanned multiple time(s) to accommodate the system tolerable deviation while capturing its image. This primary image is stored in bonafide subscriber's database of DRM of STB which will be further communicated to the central server of the content management system.
Such registered legal master upon swiping the smart card is requested for predefined his/her finger scan across the system's biometric scanner. Upon confirmation of the combination the system gives access to content available for viewing through STB and DVR combination. Following the subscription tariffs table and depending upon the frequency of watching the proportionate changes are debited from user's a/c.
The biometric certified legal user can request for non available movies on DVR for rental, upon confirmation of catering his request by the central content depository he will be charges as per the riles. It thus offers pre and post services to subscriber to view the content. As the content is digitally watermarked and system has stamping any attempt to copy the content can be tracked to detect the point of piracy.

The option of multiple times viewing or multiple no of movies, multiple language, multiple category etc can be invoked by secondary or tertiary level of subscriber under master subscriber based on location.
The master subscriber can define the rights of such subscriber and can thus monitor and govern the content viewing and accounting. To enjoy this freedom registration of those secondary user (family members), ternary users (friends/colleagues) have to be registered biometrically under phylum of master subscriber to provide them the autonomy of viewing in absence / non-availability of master subscriber during the validity period and location.

We claim:
1 A setup box with recording and storing facility with an inbuilt swipe card to activate the setup box to the transaction mode on requirement to access content provided by a provider of media content
2 A setup box as in claim 1 further having a mode of identification of the subscriber or user using means of a fingerprint reader
3 A setup box as in claimed in 1 and 2 having a medium of recording by means of a biometric scanner, the finger print pattern of a subscriber / user and registering the same to access the content and use of the set up box and gaining access to media content.
4 A setup box as in claim 1 to 3 provided with an intelligent software module which enables display index / library of available contents with corresponding tariff, duration and like data.
5 A set up Box as in claim 1 to 5 above wherein subscriber / user can choose content of his choice by confirming the option on a graphical user interface [GUI].
6 A means of communication provided between a Setup box, a swipe card, a fingerprint reader and biometric scanner for access of media content under secure and authorized manner.
7 A method of accessing media content through a setup box said method constituted by
Providing a setup box containing provision for use of smart card / swipe card facility
Providing a smart card having user data
Providing a biometric identification device to determine and identify the user by means of recording the users finger print
Collecting and storing enrolment data of the user
Enabling the contents provided by the provider to be viewed only on the positive identification of the user.
