3. PREAMBLE TO THE DESCRIPTION:
The following specification describes the nature of this invention and the manner in which it is to be performed:
RELATED APPLICATION:
This invention is a patent of addition to our parent patent application No. 27/MUM/2014 and the contents of the main patent disclosed in its entirety.
Field of Invention:
The present invention relates to blister wallet packing for pharmaceutical tablet, facilitating patient compliance. More particularly, the present invention relates to a novel blister wallet packing for dispensing Artemether Lumefantrine dose which is patient compliant, assisting the patient or user to dispense the recommended dose.
Background & Prior Art:
The use of blister pack in pharmaceutical industry is well known. They are often packed in cards or carded pack. The blister pack protects the pharmaceutical product against some of the factors such as humidity, contamination as well as sunlight. The blister pack assures safe maintenance of pharmaceutical tablet against contamination as well as external pressure while under transportation.
Often, the blisters contain information about the pharmaceutical composition and some crucial instructions. However, the user has to mainly rely on the dosage prescribed by doctor. However, there are few packing which provide dosage information and quantity.
In some of the medications for infectious diseases, such as malaria, tuberculosis, multiple tablets are required to be consumed per day. Lack of compliance or inconsistency / discontinuity in medication often results in the infectious organisms becoming resistant to such medication. Hence, it is extremely critical to follow proper medication during such diseases, especially when multiple tablets are required to be consumed per day. If the packing indicates the dosage to be consumed, the patient compliance is achieved.
Summary of Invention:
To provide the solution to the above disclosed problem, the inventor/s of the present invention has presented a novel blister wallet packing which is designed in such a way as to communicate to the patient / user to dispense and consume the tablets as per the dosage requirement. As a result, the patient / consumer consumes only the prescribed dosage.
In an aspect, a blister wallet packing for pharmaceutical tablets comprises (i) a blister containing said tablets, and (ii) a wallet enclosing said blister and displaying dosage information; wherein rear side of said wallet is divided into linear horizontal perforations, each of said perforation enclosing said group of tablets according to the dosage requirement per day; and wherein said group of tablets are dispensed by removing / peeling off each said perforation, enabling a patient / user / consumer to consume only prescribed dosage.
In a preferred embodiment, the blister wallet packing comprises a pack of 6 tablets. In alternate embodiment, the blister wallet packing comprises a pack of 24 tablets, 18 tablets and 12 tablets.
In another aspect, a method for dispensing pharmaceutical tablets packed in a blister wallet packing of the present invention is disclosed. The method comprises peeling / removing a perforation of said wallet, starting from the topmost perforation; and pressing out the tablet out of said blister.
Brief Description of Drawings:
Fig. 1 (a) & (b) illustrate the blister wallet packing for pack of 6 tablets.
Fig. 1a illustrates outside view of the blister wallet packing, showing pack of 6 tablets.
Fig. 1b illustrates inside view of the blister wallet packing, for pack of 6 tablets.
Detailed Description:
The present invention is a modification of Patent Application No. 27/MUM/2014. The said Patent Application relates to a blister wallet packing for pharmaceutical tablets.
Accordingly, the present invention discloses a blister wallet packing for pharmaceutical tablets comprising a blister containing said tablets, and a wallet enclosing said blister and displaying dosage information; wherein rear side of said wallet is divided into linear horizontal perforations, each of said perforation enclosing said group of tablets according to the dosage requirement per day, thereby acting as a reminder to the patient / user / consumer of the dosage consumed or yet to be consumed; and wherein said group of tablets are dispensed by removing / peeling off each said perforation per day, enabling a patient / user / consumer to consume only prescribed dosage, wherein the modification in the blister wallet packing comprises said wallet containing a pack of 6 tablets.
In a preferred embodiment, the wallet is a paper board wallet. The blister containing tablets are packed in the paper board wallet. The wallet is provided with plurality of perforations, the perforations dividing the wallet in such a manner that each perforation covers the pharmaceutical tablets to be consumed on per day basis.
Thus, on day 1, the consumer removes the perforation of day 1 and consumes tablets on morning and evening, as per the dosage instructions and recommendations by medical professional. Hence, as each day passes, the perforation opened has no remaining tablet which is an indication that the consumer has completed dosage of day 1 and he / she should open the next successive perforation. The procedure follows for the following day.
In another aspect, a method for dispensing pharmaceutical tablets packed in a blister wallet packing of the present invention is disclosed. The method comprises peeling / removing a perforation of said wallet, starting from the topmost perforation; and pressing out the tablet out of said blister.
Alternately, the blister contain dosage information / displays indications on the printed side mentioning Day 1, Day 2 etc., thereby eliminating any doubts of the consumer concerning the quantity of tablets to be consumed everyday provided the consumer has purchased the correct pack size as recommended by his / her consulted medical professional.
The present invention, including the preferred embodiment, may be understood with reference to the figures which are described in detail. For exemplary purposes, the blister wallet packing of the present invention is shown to be containing tablets of a combination of Artemether & Lumefantrine. However, a person skilled in the art should not restrict the scope of the invention to the examples. Any modification and variation of the present invention shall fall under the scope of the present invention.
Fig. 1 illustrates the blister wallet packing for a pack of 6 tablets which is a preferred embodiment. Fig. 1a & Fig. 1b illustrate outside view & inside view, respectively, of the blister wallet packing, showing pack of 6 tablets. Each wallet packing comprises of (i) a blister(1) containing the tablets, and (ii) a wallet(2) enclosing the blister & displaying dosage information. The blister is linearly, horizontally divided into plurality of perforations(3A,3B,3C). The perforations are provided with instructions, namely Day 1, Day 2 etc.
The method by which the tablets are to be dispensed is described herein On the first day, the consumer may open the topmost perforation(3A) which is mentioned as DAY 1 and peel it off. Thereafter consumer may open the wallet(2) and push out from the blister(1) for the morning dose. Similar procedure may be followed for evening dosage for DAY 1 to complete the first day dosage as recommended by the medical professional on the basis of the body weight of the consumer. The inside of wallet appears on completion of 1st DAY dosage consumed. Same process from point may be repeated for DAY 2 & DAY 3.
The advantages of a blister wallet packing of the present invention are as follows:
1. It has an ergonomic and user friendly design to easily fit inside one’s pockets / purse / carry bag / briefcase, without damage to blister or tablet and without accidentally getting exposed to direct sunlight.
2. A unique dose dispensing system to ensures that consumer / patient gets appropriate dose as recommended by the medical professional consulted by him / her at time interval required to treat the consumer / patient.
3. It has Child Resistant Packing with perforation and protective board to ensure the medicines does not easily come into contact with an infant / child.
4. The blister wallet packing has been designed in specific for the Artemether & Lumefantrine Range of formulations due to its unique dosage pattern and quantity to be consumed for a single patient treatment depending on his/her body weight. However, the present invention may be used for other products having similar purposes / advantages.
