Abstract: Therefore such as herein described there is provided a process of execution of a block alignment comprising the steps of Measuring the overall length, marking the green to be cut; Cutting & removal of the green material; Tightening the bottle screws & positioning the block; Measuring the overall legth & check the overall length; clearing the length inspection; and preparing the edge & releasing for fit-up.
Field of invention
The present invention relates to process of block alignment, edge preparation sequence on a vessel. More particularly, the present invention relates to optimize a procedure containing sequence of activities, to minimize or evade rework during the process of block alignment, thus minimizing the mandays & material consumed.
Background Art
Hull of a ship is made in many blocks & erected inside a dry dock or Slipway/ Cradle. The blocks are fabricated with extra green material to prevent mismatch in the dimensions during alignment.
A change in sequence is submitted, to avoid repetition of work & reduce the number of activities during block alignment.
During block aligment, the following steps were followed conventionally.
DRAWBACKS OF THE EXISTING DESIGN
1. Everytime, before tightening the bottle screws to align the block, edges are prepared.
2. The prepard edges gets damaged during the alignment process.
3. The mandays & material during the reworks are substantial.
OBJECT OF INVENTION
The principle object of the present invention is to frame a procedure containing sequence of activities, to minimize or evade rework during the process of block alignment, thus minimizing the mandays & material consumed.
Summary of invention
Therefore such as herein described there is provided a process of execution of a block alignment comprising the steps of Measuring the overall length, marking the green to be cut; Cutting & removal of the green material; Tightening the bottle screws & positioning the block; Measuring the overall legth & check the overall length; clearing the length inspection; and preparing the edge & releasing for fit-up.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
As shown in Fig. 1, the concept, procedure and method of fabrication and fitment of block alignment in the said work resulting in simplification work, and increased production is illustrated. The invention can be applied on both naval ship and merchant vessel construction.
The procedure and the method of fabrication includes the steps of placement and alignment of blocks at berth and thereafter fixing up of bottle screws to hold the blocks and measure the overall length of the ship along with the block but as shown in Fig.2. The next step is to provide marking of the green that is to be cut in the newly placed block followed by cutting of the marked portion in the newly placed block at berth as shown in Fig. 3. Further step includes tightening of bottle screws and positioning the block at close proximity of the existing block and measure overall length of ship and inspecting of the length, if it matches, go to the next step, if not, start over from point no. 2 till the inspction is cleared and therby completion of fitting is done as as shown in Fig.4. The last step includes final edge preperation of the block butt & grinding is shown in Fig. 5.
Advantages and Uses of Invention
(a) Unlike the conventional method, edge preparation is carried out only once.
(b) Damages to the prepared egde during alignment is avoided as the edge preparation is done only after final inspection.
(c) Manday & materials (oxy-acetylene & torch sets) deputed during the repeated rework in the conventional method are saved.
(d) Total production output for a standard sized block is reduced from 120 days to 84 days.
Although the foregoing description of the present invention has been shown and described with reference to particular embodiments and applications thereof, it has been presented for purposes of illustration by way of examples and description and is not intended to be exhaustive or to limit the invention to the particular embodiments and applications disclosed. The particular embodiments and applications were chosen and described to provide the best illustration of the principles of the invention and its practical application to thereby enable one of ordinary skill in the art to utilize the invention in various embodiments and with various modifications as are suited to the particular use contemplated. All such changes, modifications, variations, and alterations should therefore be seen as being within the scope of the present invention as determined by the appended claims when interpreted in accordance with the breadth to which they are fairly, legally, and equitably entitled.
We claim:
1. The process of execution of a block alignment on a vessel comprising the steps of:
a) placing and aligning of blocks at berth;
b) fixing up of bottle screws to hold the blocks & measure the overall length of the ship along with the block but;
c) marking of the green that is to be cut in the newly placed block;
d) cutting of the marked portion in the newly placed block at berth;
e) tightening of bottle screws and positioning the block at close proximity of the existing block and measure overall length of said vessel;
f ) inspecting the length, if it matches, go to the next step, if not, start over from
point no.(b) till the inspction is cleared and completing the fitting of block;
and
g) carrying out the final edge preperation of the block butt & grinding.
