Blown Film Machine With Safety Mechanism

Abstract: A blown film machine 102 with a safety mechanism 110 is described. The safety mechanism 110 is to automatically create a pre-determined gap between nip rollers 202 of the blown film machine 102 whenever a cover 204 of the nip rollers 202 is opened. The nip rollers 202 are present on the winder section of the blown film machine 102 for pulling the film for winding. The safety mechanism 110 is also configured to close the nip after receiving a manual trigger and ensuring that the cover 204 is closed. A PLC 212 of the safety mechanism 110 senses a input command for closing of the nip and also reads from a limit switch 210 if the cover 204 is closed. When the PLC 212 reads that the cover 204 is closed, the PLC 212 gives an output command to a pneumatic cylinder 214 to close the nip.

Specification

Claims:1. A blown film machine 102 comprising:
nip rollers 202 on a winder section of the blown film machine 102 to pull a film before winding;
a cover 204 to cover the nip rollers 202 in a first operating condition; and
a safety mechanism 110 to automatically create a pre-determined gap between the nip rollers 202 when the cover is opened in a second operating condition.
2. The blown film machine 102 as claimed in claim 1, wherein the safety mechanism 110 comprises:
a limit switch 210 electrically coupled to the cover 204 to detect a status of the cover 204;
a PLC 212 to receive the status of the cover 204 from the limit switch 210; and
a pneumatic cylinder 214 coupled with the PLC 212 and a metal roller of the nip rollers 202, wherein the pneumatic cylinder 214 is to receive an output signal from the PLC 212 and create a gap between the rollers of the nip rollers 202 upon the detection of opening of the cover 204 to allow operation in the second operating condition.
3. The blown film machine 102 as claimed in claim 1, wherein the safety mechanism 110 is configured to close the pre-determined gap between the nip rollers 202 upon receiving a manual trigger and detecting that the cover 204 is closed.

4. The blown film machine 102 as claimed in claim 2, wherein the safety mechanism 110 comprises a push button 218 to provide an input command to the PLC 212 to close the pre-determined gap between the nip rollers 202 when pressed.

5. The blown film machine 102 as claimed in claim 4, wherein the PLC 212 is configured to read from the limit switch 210 whether the cover 204 is closed before providing a command to the pneumatic cylinder 214 to close the pre-determined gap.
6. The blown film machine 102 as claimed in claim 1, wherein the cover 204 is supported on a plurality of hinges 208.
7. A method of opening a nip between nip rollers 202 of winders 108 in a blown film machine 102, the method comprising:
sensing, by a limit switch 210, if a cover 204 of the nip rollers 202 is open;
reading the open condition of the cover 204, by a PLC 212, from the limit switch 210;
providing, by the PLC 212, a signal to an electro-pneumatic cylinder 214 for opening the nip; and
creating, by the electro-pneumatic cylinder, a gap between the nip rollers upon receiving the signal.
8. A method of closing a nip between nip rollers 202 of winders 108 in a blown film machine 102, the method comprising:
sensing, by a PLC 212, an input command to close the nip;
sensing by a limit switch 210, if the cover 204 of the nip rollers 202 is closed;
reading, the closed condition of the cover 204, by the PLC 212, from the limit switch 210; and
providing, by the PLC 212, an output signal to an electro-pneumatic cylinder 214 for closing the nip.
