Box Terminal for Low Voltage Circuit Breaker
Field of the invention
The present invention relates generally to low voltage circuit breakers, and more particularly to a box terminal for low voltage circuit breaker where termination is being achieved by means of cable terminals.
Background of the invention
A typical electrical circuit breakers can be connected to the electrical circuit by various means. The way in which the conductors are connected is called as termination type. Termination of the circuit breaker is made as per the environment chosen for it, i.e. standard type, box type or plug-in type. The conductors can be cables or solid conductors. The type of the conductor also influences the termination type in use. In standard type termination, generally it is being achieved by means of spreaders which require significantly high space for mounting the circuit breakers on the panel board. Even if the standard termination is done through links, it requires coating for avoiding short circuit between each others, also it cannot be bunched unlike a bundle conductor.
Specifically, EP2261943 provide an insertion terminal for a switch having a cheap and reliable blade terminal. The blade terminal is configured by forming a boxy portion having a box shape made of a conductive plate having a rectangle shape, and by forming one end portion of the conductive plate as a blade portion, which is directly clamped by clip terminals, perpendicularly rising from the boxy portion. However, the EP2261943 patent doesn't allow termination with the stranded cable conductors.
Manufacturer of the circuit breakers make the box terminal suitable to cable termination environment. But for the secure termination, one has to ensure that

the box terminal (box clamp) doesn't pop out of the device unintentionally otherwise it would be a local overheating at the joint which may spoil the properties of plastic material used for making that electrical device, in a way reduces the life of the particular device. If pop out of the box clamp is at large extent, then a live cable can come out which may lead to flashover and damage the surroundings or put human lives on risk too. For avoiding these risk, the manufactures have to make the separate component or a complex design which ensures the safe electrical connection. Also, the box clamp should be strong enough to sustain the force and should not deform its original shape while tightening the cable terminal. For increasing strength of the box terminal, some manufacturers insert a separate plate having a threading thereon, which takes a part of stress exerted on the box terminal and prevents the box terminal deformation. However, the separate component in the box terminal complexes the design and reduce the terminal cable holding capacity. For holding the cable properly, the terminal assembly is having a clamp. Presently joining of the clamp is done by riveting in most of the cases, but it is difficult operation even by complex machine automation.
Accordingly, there exists a need to provide a box terminal assembly, which overcomes drawbacks of the prior art.
Objects of the invention
An object of the present invention is to provide a reliable, compact and rugged construction of the electrical device.
Another object of the present invention is to restricts box terminal's degree of freedom.
Summary of the invention

Accordingly, the present invention provides a box terminal assembly for low voltage circuit breaker. The box terminal assembly includes a hollow housing having a front surface, a rear surface, two side surface, a top surface and a bottom surface. The front surface and the rear surface includes front cuts provided thereon for increasing terminal ground clearance. A flare is provided on the bottom surface of the hollow housing for holding the hollow housing in the circuit breaker. Further, a clamp is adapted on upper portion of the rear surface for tightening a cable terminal to the circuit breaker. Furthermore, an opening is configured on inner side of the bottom surface for riveting the clamp. Also, a screw is configured on the top surface to transfer tightening force to the clamp and a first locking means provided on the sides of the housing for providing strength to the housing.

Detailed description of the invention
The foregoing objects of the present invention are accomplished and the problems and shortcomings associated with the prior art, techniques and approaches are overcome by the present invention as described below in the preferred embodiments.
The present invention provides a box terminal assembly for low voltage circuit breakers. The box terminal assembly is reliable, compact and rugged construction having an improved design. The box terminal assembly provides mating arrangement with the circuit breaker which restricts the box terminal's degree of freedom.
Referring now to figure 1 to 5, there is shown box terminal assembly (100) for low voltage circuit breaker (200), in accordance with the present invention. The assembly (100) includes a hollow housing (20) (hereinafter 'the housing (20'), a flare (30), a clamp (40), an opening (50), screw (60) and a first locking means (70).
The housing (20) includes a front surface (12a), a rear surface (12b), two side surfaces (14a, 14b), a top surface (16a) and a bottom surface (16b). The housing (20) is capable of being positioned in the circuit breaker (200) for termination thereof. The housing (20) is provided with a first locking means (70) configured on the two side surfaces (14a, 14b) which provides strength to the housing (20). In an embodiment, the housing (20) is provided with a second locking means (80) on the two side surfaces (14a, 14b) to strengthen the housing (20) and sustaining force during the termination of the circuit breaker (200) by the box termination assembly (100).

The front surface (12a) and the rear surface (12b) are provided with front cuts (10a, 10b) respectively thereon. The front cuts (10a, 10b) increases the box terminal ground clearance as shown in figure 4.
Further, the flare (30) is provided on inner side of the bottom surface (16b) of the housing (20). The flare (30) provides for holding the housing (20) in the circuit breaker (200). The flare (30) does not allow the housing (20) to pop out of the circuit breaker (200), which ensures the safe and reliable termination of the circuit breaker (200) by the box termination assembly (100).
Furthermore, the clamp (40) is adapted on upper portion of the rear surface (12b). The clamp (40) enables for tightening a cable (90) terminal to the circuit breaker (200). The clamp is riveted by the opening (50). The opening (50) is configured on inner side of the bottom surface (16b) of the housing (20). In an embodiment, the clamp (40) includes serration (42) provided thereon for holding the cable (90) firmly. Figure 3 shows a box terminal assembly (100) is being assembled with the circuit breaker (200), wherein the flare (30) and the opening (50) makes a mating arrangement of the box terminal assembly (100) with the circuit breaker (200).
Furthermore, a screw (50) is configured on the top surface (16a). The screw (50) enables transferring tightening force from a user to the clamp (40). In an embodiment the screw (50) is a grub screw. Specifically, figure 1 and 2 shows the box terminal assembly (100) in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 5 shows the box terminal assembly (100) assembled with the circuit breaker (200). The termination of the circuit breaker (200) by the box termination assembly (100) reduces the space required for mounting the circuit breaker in a panel and makes electrical connections simple as shown in figure 5.
Advantages of the invention

1. The box terminal assembly (100) ensures the safety and reliability of the termination.
2. The box terminal assembly (100) provides rugged construction which prevents deformation thereof.
The foregoing descriptions of specific embodiments of the present invention have been presented for purposes of illustration and description. They are not intended to be exhaustive or to limit the present invention to the precise forms disclosed, and obviously many modifications and variations are possible in light of the above teaching. The embodiments were chosen and described in order to best explain the principles of the present invention and its practical application, to thereby enable others skilled in the art to best utilize the present invention and various embodiments with various modifications as are suited to the particular use contemplated. It is understood that various omission and substitutions of equivalents are contemplated as circumstance may suggest or render expedient, but such are intended to cover the application or implementation without departing from the spirit or scope of the present invention.
