Braid Separation Apparatus

Abstract: The present disclosure proposes braid separation apparatuses for separating rope strands (8) of a braided rope, thereby allowing reuse of the separated rope strands (8). In an embodiment, the apparatus comprises an input assembly which moves a braided rope, made of at least three rope strands (8), into the apparatus. The apparatus comprises three or more winding carriers (3), each being coupled to one of the rope strands (8). The winding carriers (3) move about each other in serpentine path to separate rope strands (8) of the braided rope. Each winding carrier (3) comprises spool (18) which is connected to rope strand (8) coupled to winding carrier (3). Each winding carrier (3) further comprises a torque creating unit (17) to provide a torque on spool (18) and cause spool (18) to rotate for winding rope strand (8) around spool (18).
