An Improved Brake System For Locomotive

Abstract: In the present invention, an improve device for brake adjuster is constituted of two solid steel yoke bridged by a turn buckle in between them. Each steel yoke having a plurality of holes at both end and a inside threaded hole at the other end through which screw of turn buckle can move in forward and backward direction. The turn buckle is provided with two adjustable checknut at both sides and a fix nut at the centre. Screw is to be rotated clockwise or anti-clockwise and accordingly, adjustable device will be shortened and extended. The first end of the device is attached with Brake hanger connected with the Brake cylinder by means of a steel pin through the hole. The second end of the device is fastened with the brake shoe through brake hanger by means of steel pin through the hole. The connector of the brake cylinder push the improved device forward direction which in turn hinder the rotation of wheel.

Specification

BRAKE SYSTEM FOR WD56 LOCOMOTIVE FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a device for brake adjustment. More particularly, the present invention relates to an improved brake adjustable device adoptable in a Railway Locomotive.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
A railway locomotive is provided with a brake and brake mounting
i
attachment to control the motion of the locomotive. During usage for a certain period or sudden service failure] brake shoes are required to replace and also require to adjust a gap between the brake shoe and the outer circumference of railway wheel.
The existing system of adjustment of gap between the brake shoe and the wheel is performed by changing the position of holes among plurality of holes which are provided on both sides of a Tie-Rod. The problems evolve during changing of old wear out tie-rod on in maintenance of adjustment of tie-rod between brake shoe and wheels are as follows:-
1) The weighty tie-rod hangs from two pins at two side end, creates trouble to the operator for mounting and dismounting.

2
2) Finer brake adjustment on wheel with the existing hole type tie-rod
was not possible.
3) The brake with existing tie-rod attachment affects safety of
locomotive.
4) The operation of brake adjustment is not ergonomical and labour
intensive.
5) 3 to 4mm. gap between wheel and brake shoes was not possible for
accurate adjustment in existing hole type-rod.
6) Side adjustment is not ergonomical.
7) Accurate adjustment for brake is not possible at railway yard site.
8) Frequent complaint raised by the driver for weak brake.
9) Due to space constraint, there are chances of finger injury during
replacement period.
10) The existing tie-rod can not be adjusted without removal.

3
To overcome such difficulties in the existing tie-rod for brake adjustment an emphasize on development of an improved device for adjustment of brake is made in the prevent invention.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
It is therefore, an object of the present invention to propose an improved brake adjustable device adoptable in railway locomotives which eliminates the disadvantages of prior art.
Another object of the present invention is to propose an improved brake adjustable device adoptable in railway locomotives which is easy to operate.
A still another of the present invention is to propose an improved brake adjustable device adoptable in railway locomotives which reduces the brake-related maintence time by 60%
A further object of the present invention is to propose an improved brake adjustable device adoptable in railway locomotives which enables for finner adjustment of brake.

4
A still further object of the present invention is to propose an improved brake adjustable device adoptable in railway locomotives which can be adjusted brake of locomotives at railway yard site and is not required to bring the loco at maintenance shed for adjustment
An yet further object of the present invention is to propose an improved brake adjustable device adoptable \ in railway locomotives which eliminates the loco detention and wastage of fuel due to logistic loss.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
In the present invention, an improve device for brake adjuster is constituted of two solid steel yoke bridged by a turn buckle in between them. The first end of the device is attached with Brake hanger connected with !the Brake cylinder by means of a steel pin through the hole. The second end of the device is fastened with the brake shoe through brake hanger by means of steel pin through the hole.

5
The connector of the brake cylinder push the improved device forward direction which in turn hinder the rotation of wheel.
