Abstract: A break detection device comprises a sensor an abnormal variation detector (22) a storage unit (20) an arithmetic logical unit (23) and a break determination unit (24). The arithmetic logical unit (23) adds a determination point when the abnormal variation detector (22) detects that an abnormal variation has been generated when an elevator car (1) passes through a position stored in the storage unit (20). The arithmetic logical unit (23) subtracts a determination point if the abnormal variation detector (22) does not detect that an abnormal variation has been generated when the elevator car (1) passes through the position. The break determination unit (24) determines whether a break is present on a rope on the basis of the determination points.
