Abstract: A system (100) for measuring torque for a gas turbine engine shaft is provided. The system (100) can include a torque sensor (104) positioned at an engine shaft (34, 36, 38, 42, 44). The torque sensor (104), itself, can include a strain sensor (114) for obtaining a strain measurement of the engine shaft (34, 36, 38, 42, 44) and a temperature sensor (116) for obtaining a temperature measurement of the engine shaft (34, 36, 38, 42, 44). The system (100) can also include a wireless communication element (120) operably connected to the torque sensor (104) for transferring the strain measurement and the temperature measurement. In addition, one or more memory storage units (112) co-located with the torque sensor (104) can be provided. The one or more memory storage units (112) can store calibration information for the system (100). The calibration information is used by one or more processors (110) to calibrate the strain measurement obtained by the strain and the temperature measurement obtained by the temperature sensor (116). Methods of using the system (100) are also provided.
