Abstract: The present invention relates to a roof garnish assembly (hereinafter, “assembly”) that includes: a front end and a rear end; a clip mounting; a plurality of positive mountings; and a plurality of carrier mountings. The assembly is adapted to be mounted on the vehicle roof by means of said plurality of positive mountings and the clip mounting. Further, the assembly has an insertion space provision for an additional roof carrier. The provision comprises a cut out or spacing provided in the assembly by which a carrier clip/studs passes through, that helps in attachment or de-attachment of an external carriage assembly on the roof garnish assembly. Figure 1 on Sheet 1 of the drawings may accompany the abstract when published.
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an automotive product. More particularly, it relates to a garnish assembly which is resilient, light weighed, adapted to fit on a vehicle roof and having special provisions of extraneous attachments like carriage 5 assembly.
BACKGROUNDOF THE INVENTION
Roof garnish is an attachment that provides aesthetic look to the roof of vehicle 10 along with some functional components such as means of attachments to a load carrier assembly that can be attached to the body of the vehicle.
Load carrier assembly is used to provide space for large and unwieldy items that can not fit into a car. It also provides an external space for wet and dirty objects 15 keeping the car interior clean and dry.
Roof garnish can be installed on motor vehicles to prevent water accumulation on the roof and hence helps in resisting water penetration into vehicle on door openings during boarding and de-boarding of passengers from the vehicle. Roof 20 garnish may be attached to the vehicle either within roof ditches or in the vicinity of roof ditches using strong mounting features that can tolerate the load.
Generally, roof garnish components are installed by sealing means and one or plurality of clips that attaches to the portion of the vehicle body whereas there are 25 a lot of problems in fixing the garnish components. Conventional roof garnish components may get damaged during the disassembly. So there is a need to develop a roof garnish that can be easily assembled as well as disassembled without damaging the garnish components. Also, the garnishing should be designed aerodynamically to prevent any hindrance by air. The roof garnishing 30 components should be light weight and resilient that can be installed and uninstalled easily without damaging its components.
3
Hence, there should be an approach which uses the light weight, aerodynamically designed roof garnishing component which does not increase the weight of the vehicle and should also be easily installed and uninstalled without damaging the garnishing components.

OBJECT OF THE INVENTION
The main object of the present invention is to provide a roof garnish assembly for vehicles having a provision of attaching and/or de-attaching extraneous attachments like carriage assembly. 10
Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a roof garnish assembly made of a light weight material.
Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a resilient roof garnish 15 assembly adapted to be fitted on variety of vehicle roof types.
Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a roof garnish assembly with additional features like prevention of rain water to penetrate inside the vehicle. 20
Yet another object of the present invention is to provide various mounting means for proper positioning of the garnish assembly and other extraneous attachments like carriage assembly.
25
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a roof garnish assembly (hereinafter, “assembly”) that includes: a front end and a rear end; a clip mounting; a plurality of positive mountings; and a plurality of carrier mountings. The assembly is adapted to be 30 mounted on the vehicle roof by means of said plurality of positive mountings and the clip mounting. Further, the assembly has an insertion space provision for an
4
additional roof carrier. The provision comprises a cut out or spacing provided in the assembly by which a carrier clip/studs passes through, that helps in attachment or de-attachment of an external carriage assembly on the roof garnish assembly.
5
In another embodiment, the present invention provides an assembly which is light in weight and has a sufficient strength.
In another embodiment of the present invention, the roof garnish assembly has a resilient property that makes it capable to fit on variety of roof designs. 10
The assembly provides a protective barrier on the vehicle roof to prevent flow of rain water through the sides of the vehicle roof and hence reduces chances of water penetration inside the vehicle through side windows of the vehicle doors.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The present invention will now be described hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawings in which a preferred embodiment of the invention is 10 shown. This invention may, however, be embodied in many different forms and should not be construed as being limited to the embodiment set forth herein. Rather, the embodiment is provided so that this disclosure will be thorough, and will fully convey the scope of the invention to those skilled in the art.
15
According to one aspect of the present invention, a roof garnish assembly for a motor vehicle includes roof garnish constructed to be fastened on a vehicle roof of the motor vehicle, with the roof garnish including a recess like provision disposed in the roof garnish, a load carrier constructed to be installed on the roof garnish, with the load carrier having at least one mounting projection engaging with the 20 roof garnish through the recess when the load carrier is installed and cooperating with at least one mounting receptacle for retaining the load carrier, a cover closing the recess when the load carrier is not installed, and a detection device detecting a cover state of the recess.
25
Referring to FIG. 1, an exploded view of the roof garnish assembly is illustrated. The roof garnish assembly 11 comprises mounting caps (2, 4) and carrier caps (1, 3) connected horizontally in alternate fashion. The mounting and carrier caps are provided for easy attachment of roof garnish assembly on the vehicle roof and the carriage assembly on the roof garnish assembly respectively. The roof garnish 30 assembly 11 further comprises a nut 8, a clip 6, and a cushion washer 7forming a clip mounting at the front end.
6
Referring to FIG. 2, an exploded view of clip mounting provision at the front end of the assembly 11 is provided. The clip mounting helps to engage the assembly 11 for positioning on the vehicle roof. The assembly 11 can be engaged on the roof using a nut 8; clip 6; and the cushion washer 7 that can be installed through the front end of the assembly 11. The clip 6 allows for simplified attachment and 5 detachment of the assembly 11 from the roof without damaging the assembly 11.
FIG. 3 provides a view of the positive and carrier mounting provided in the roof garnish assembly. The positive mounting and carrier mounting includes a mounting cap 1 configured to the roof garnish assembly with a cushion 5 that 10 helps the assembly to avoid noise of the Cap and for engagement of an external carrier assembly to connect with the roof garnish assembly. The positive mounting helps in positively retaining the garnish assembly on the roof for which a cushion 10 is provided.
15
FIG. 4 represents another positive mounting provided at the centre end of the assembly 11.
FIG 5. represents another provision for the roof carrier mounting provided on the assembly 11. 20
FIG. 6 represents another positive mounting provided at the rear end of the assembly 11.
