FIELD OF INVENTION
This invention relates to Central Mounting System of Engine.
BACKGROUND1 PRIOR ART
In an automobile, engines are mounted on 3 point mounting or 4 point
mounting system. Nowadays, a pendulum mounting (2 mountings) is also used
in vehicle. In pendulum mounting, engine is supported on 2 mounts and a
torque restrictor is used.
In automobile industry, the main purpose of engine mounting is to support
engine as well as to control NVH characteristics.
However, the common practice of Engine mounting is through three point/ four
point mounting or pendulum type of mounting depending on engine weight &
torque.
However, the disadvantages associated with the three or four point system are
as follows:-
Tuning requires lot of time as three mountings need to be tuned in three
directions i.e. x,y, & z as all mounts are away from TRA.
Therefore, pendulum system is preferred over the three or four point system.
The advantages of the pendulum system are given herein below:-
- Light weight and less cost.
- Suitable for idling vibration.
- Easy tuning of engine mountings as LH & RH mount is placed close to
TRA .
Now, Reference may be made to the following prior arts:
1. JP01145226 The first and second mounts are installed on the right and left
side members in pairs which are arranged in an engine room. The third Page 5
of 11 mount is installed onto the reinforcing member of a dashboard at the rear
edge of the engine room. In this case, the first and second mounts are arranged
in the upper and lower parts in front of the center of gravity G of a power plant,
and the third plant is arranged at the equal height to the center of gravity G
behind the power plant. The center of gravity G of the power plant is arranged
in the vicinity of the plane P including the mounts. Then, the line connecting
the mounts is allowed to coincide with the rotary shaft T of the power plant.
It is having three mounts, out of which two are placed on the right and left of
the center of gravity and third is installed onto the reinforcing member of a
dashboard at the rear edge of the engine room.
2. JP04325721 A four cylinder engine is transversely arranged so as to be
parallel with a vehicle body a crankshaft thereof, and a transmission is
longitudinally arranged before the engine so as to be along a direction nearly
orthogonal to the crankshaft the rotation axis thereof. In such a constitution of
power plant, a position of the center of gravity G thereof is set to nearly the
center part of the first and the fourth cylinders for width direction of the vehicle
body, and set to near a straight line connecting points of application of
reactions due to respective explosions of the first and the fourth cylinders
together, for longitudinal direction of the vehicle body. Moreover, direction of
rotation of the crankshaft and direction of rotation of a wheel axle rotating the
front wheels are made to reverse direction to each other and the component
power plant is supported in three points by three engine mounts.
It is having three mount system and the position of the CG is set near to the
center of the first and fourth cylinder.
3. JP56079023 Power unit, including engine itself, transmission, etc. is
supported by the front cross member, the rear cross member, the frame, etc.,
with the mounting rubber placed between the unit and these parts. In this
constitution, the front mount and the rear mount are positioned approximately
on the vertical surface of forward and backward a-a line through the center of
gravity G to the weight loaded on the mounting spring of power unit, and the
mounting rubbers are made to receive deformation in the shearing direction
against pitching movement, namely the movement in the direction of the arrow
sign. On the other hand, the side mount is positioned approximately by the
right side of the center gravity G, namely on the b-b line approximately
crossing at right angles against the a-a line.
It is having an engine mounting system where the front mount and the rear
mount are positioned almost on the vertical surface of forward and backward
line through the center of gravity of the weight loaded on the mounting spring
of engine unit
4. JP2004345387 A power unit having a transverse engine is supported at a
supporting position above a center of gravity of a power unit by a first bracket,
and a second bracket is mounted on a front face of a strut housing. The first
bracket and the second bracket are connected with a mount body, and the
mount body is mounted on a top face of a side frame.
It is having two mount systems and engine is supported above CG by two
brackets.
5. EP344415Al A mounting system for a transverse three-cylinder engine is
specified which is held on the body side via a plurality of bearings and via a
torque support. A central bearing is arranged beneath a horizontal plane (XX)
running through a centre of gravity of the unit, the torque support lying above
this plane. The central bearing and the torque support are arranged
approximately in a common vertical transverse plane (YY) running through the
centre of gravity and a support bearing is arranged on the end face of the unit.
1) There are two load sharing mounting and one torque stopper
2) The torque stopper is on C.G. axis.
3) Normal oil pan can be used.
It discloses engine mounting system where support is provided through central
bearing arranged beneath a horizontal plane running through the CG of the
engine unit.
Thus, it is provided with one side mounting.
6. JP10109550 A power unit being composed of an engine and a transmission
is supported in an automobile engine room by a pair of upper engine mounts
to be set up so as to pinch the center of gravity of this power unit from both
upper and lower sides and one lower engine mount. These upper engine
mounts regulate any movement of the power unit through an elastic body
(rubber body) being compressed when it is moved downward, while the lower
engine mount regulates the movement through the elastic body (rubber body)
being compressed when it is moved upward.
In this patent, power unit is supported in an engine room by a pair of upper
engine mounts to be set up so as to pinch the center of gravity of this power
unit from both upper and lower sides and one lower engine mount.
Thus, it is provided with 3 point mounting system.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
An object of the present invention is to provide Central Mounting System of
Engine which overcomes disadvantages associated with the prior art.
Another object of the present invention is to provide Central Mounting System
of Engine in which all the torque stoppers are easy to tune.
Yet another object of the present invention is to provide Central Mounting
System of Engine which is light in weight with easy layout.
Still another object of the present invention is to provide Central Mounting
System of Engine which results in easy assembly of the vehicle.
STATEMENT OF INVENTION
According to this invention, there is provided Central mounting system of
engine comprising mounting of engine at its center of gravity for transmission
of load therethrough, which is provided on a frame.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWING
Further objects and advantages of this invention will be more apparent from
the ensuing description when read in conjunction with the accompanying
drawing and wherein:
Fig. 1 shows: central mounting system of engine according to the present
invention.
1 DETAIL DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION WITH REFERENCE TO THE
I
ACCOMPANYING DRAWING:
The present invention discloses central mounting system of engine. Now,
reference may be made to fig. 1, wherein the system comprising mounting of
engine (1) at its centre of gravity for transmission of load therethrough. This
requires provision of lower frame (2) in longitudinal direction.
Further, a plurality of torque stoppers (4) is provided (as shown) which act as
support. Said torque stoppers are connected to cylinder head cover (5). Due to
presence of only one mount, the load of engine comes on to the frame.
Therefore, said frame is required to have higher strength. Accordingly, the
frame is provided.
In the prior art, the oil pan is made of sheet metal. However, in the present
invention the oil pan (3) is made of Aluminium casting to bear more load as
center of gravity of engine passes through center of gravity of oil pan.
The mounting system of the instant invention does not require brackets as
provided in the art. Removal of the brackets leads to weight reduction and
therefore cost reduction. The engine is directly mounted on the frame with full
load on the central mounting.
Advantageous Features
- Easy assembly.
- Easy to tune all torque stoppers.
- Easy to adopt same engine in multiple vehicles.
- Light weight and cost effective comparatively.
- Easy layout.
It is to be noted that the present invention is susceptible to modifications,
adaptations and changes by those skilled in the art. Such variant embodiments
employing the concepts and features of this invention are intended to be within
the scope of the present invention, which is further set forth under the
following claims: -
