Centrifugal Actuator For An Electric Motor Starter Switch

Abstract: A centrifugal actuator (1) for an electric motor starter switch. It comprises a base member (2) made of rigid plastics and provided with a pair of end flanges (3) each having formed therethrough a guide hole (4). (5) is a central opening through the base member and (6) is a tubular projection projecting from the periphery of the central opening at one face of the base member. The base member is adapted to be mounted on a motor shaft (8) through the central opening and the tubular projection and provided with locking means (9a, 9b) to lock it positively on the motor shaft (8). (11) is a switch actuating member made of rigid plastics and comprising a central bore (12) therethrough. (13) is a collar projecting from the periphery of the central bore at one surface of the switch actuating member and (14, 14) are a pair of guide members projecting from the said one surface of the switch actuating member and located at opposite sides of the said collar. The switch actuating member is slidably engaged over the tubular projection of the base member through the collar and central bore therein and guided by the guide members passing through the guide holes in the end flanges of the base member. (15, 15) are a pair of arcuate metallic flyweights each being disposed over each of the end flanges and pivoted on the switch actuating member. The flyweight each is provided with a pair of spaced legs (16, 16) adapted to abut and slide against the end flanges of the base member. The flyweights are biased towards each other by the pair of tension springs (19) each connected to the corresponding ends of the flyweights (fig. 3 and 6) Also, an electric motor comprising the centrifugal actuator.
