Ceramic Reinforced Bulk Metallic Glass Composite And Method Of Producing The Same
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of producing ceramic reinforced bulk metallic glass alloy material by Pulsed Electric Current sintering Technology. A composite material having a maximum of the reinforcement material with minimum of the bulk metallic glass alloy as the matrix material is sintered at a temperature slightly above the glass transition temperature of the bulk metallic glass alloy and more preferably in the super cooled liquid region of the bulk metallic glass alloy material. The product is sintered rapidly and cooled during the pressing stage to ensure a perfect compaction and good bonding between the bulk metallic glass alloy and the ceramic reinforcement which is preferably in metallic coated form. The successful reinforcement of ceramic powders is achieved along with the bulk metallic glass constituent thereby providing a good elastic strength and high hardness.
