Chassis Frame Cross Member Assembly For Heavy Duty Vehicle

Abstract: chassis frame cross member assembly (50) for a heavy-duty vehicle is disclosed which includes a chassis frame (52) having a pair of parallel side rails (54,56) extending longitudinally throughout length of a vehicle. Each side rail (54, 56) includes a plurality of vertically spaced upper and lower reinforcement angle brackets (60, 62) on its top side and bottom side respectively. A cross member (64) having an L shaped top gusset (66) and a U shaped bottom gusset (68) on both sides extends laterally between the side rails (54, 56). The L shaped top gusset (66) is attached at a gap (59) formed between the upper reinforcement angle brackets (60) and a midportion of the U shaped bottom gusset (68) is attached at a gap (59) formed between the lower reinforcement angle brackets (62) to support the lower reinforcement angle brackets (62) where high stress is observed.
