BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The following describes non-limiting preferred embodiments of the present
invention, which are only for the sake of understanding the invention.
As stated hereinbefore, conventional BOS packing machines and methods had
some vital drawbacks, like substantial heat generation, stickiness in case of
IJL/Thermal printed discs, increase in cost of production due to high power
consumption and cost of OPS pouch. Furthermore, due to application of very thin
film LLDPE of approximately 25 micron, to protect the screens (digital display
screens) and other products during transit, tackiness effect could not be
achieved. Also, due to application of shrink pouch, the discs on top and bottom
got bended and consequently, maintaining the TD and RD of compact discs
during storage and transit of discs, was difficult and additionally, the man power
involved was high.
Fig 5 illustrates the process flow of a conventional BOS packing machine and
method, which is self-explanatory. The cling wrap machine for BOS packing with
thin film and the methodoly in accordance with the present invention, proposes to
solve the aforesaid drawbacks in the technology.
Fig 1 illustrates a preferred embodiment of the cling wrap machine for BOS packing, in accordance with the present invention. Basically, it comprises a cling film roll(1) rather than OPS pouch of conventional BOS packing machines, a controller^), film guider(3), knife assembly (4), discs holder(5), a spindle gripper(6) and pinch roller(7) all operatively connected, to achieve the desired objectives of the present invention. The cling film roll (1) plays a vital role in the entire operation. The controller controls the entire operation to ensure initiation and stoppage as may be required. The film guider guides the film for ensuring perfection in operation. Knife assembly, discs holder, spindle gripper and pinch roller, perform their usual functions.
Fig 4, explicitly illustrates the process flow of the cling wrapping technology, both machinery and methodology, proposed to be protected by the present invention. This is further substantiated by Figure 3 and Figure 4 which illustrate BOS pack with thin film and pictorial view of BOS pack and its packing in master cartoon, respectively.
In accordance with the invention, LLDPE film 40 MIC Masking film is applied for cling wrap BOS packing. This comprises the material 'polyethylene film base with water based low tack acrylic adhesive' which facilitates, providing the tackiness effect. Application of cling film instead OPS also facilitates reduction in cost. The machine, in accordance with the invention was developed through DMADV approach of six-sigma. The machine was taken on trial and corrected as and when required. No cling wrap pack was hitherto made with all the facility, (folding and wrapping). The technical advancement and economic significance of the cling wrap machine for BOS packing with thin film and the corresponding methodology, will be clear from the tabular results, which are based on experiments based on actual performance of the machine and the methodology in accordance with the invention.
The aforesaid tabular results unequivocally establish the technical advancement and economic significance achieved by the present invention, which was hitherto not conceivable to persons skilled in the art.
The principal achievements of the present invention are as follows: i) BOS without involving heat.
ii) Cheaper than existing BOS due to application of cling film
iii) Horizontal placement of BOS pack
IV) No stickiness in case of IJL/ Thermal printed discs
v) Development of film to do the cling pack, with tackiness effect.
vi) Increase in average BOS packaging per month.
Vii) Energy saving by reduction in electrical consumption & AC load. Viii) Reduction in man power ix) Huge annual cost saving of around Rs 1.88 million
The methodology in accordance with the present invention is also suitable for other types of industrial packing, where same type of packing is applicable.
The present invention is based on an entirely new concept of BOS packing and is advancement over known BOS packing machines and technology. The concept of packaging, involving the machine is also advantageous in respect of technical efficiency and /or cost effectiveness of packing.
The present invention has been described with reference to some preferred embodiments and drawings, which are purely for the sake of understanding and not by way of any limitation and the present invention includes all legitimate developments within the scope of what has been described hereinbefore and claimed in the appended claims.
