CLUTCH BOOSTER PLASTIC PISTON WITH NO PARTING LINE IN SEALING / SLIDING AREA FOR AUTOMOTIVE APPLICATION
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
This invention relates to mechanical engineering, specifically automobile engineering and relates to a clutch actuation system. This invention relates to a clutch booster plastic piston with no parting line in sealing / sliding area for automotive applicationfor a hydraulic clutch system mounted on a gear box housing in commercial vehicle.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention is directed to new and useful improvements in piston assemblies of the type used in cylinders and other apparatus.
For years it has been more or less customary to use pistons of various types in clutch cylinder assemblies.Steel and aluminium materials have been used for manufacturing the piston. Steel pistons have been used if the cost is the major role but not the weight of the product. These type of steel pistons are used in tractor segments where cost is the major role. When comes to commercial segments, there the weight plays the major role than the cost. Hence, the aluminium pistons are used in the clutch cylinder assemblies which is lesser in weight, better wear & corrosion resistant properties. As the time goes, the competition among the OEM is getting more, Hence all OEM wanted to have unique selling points for each products and they expect same from their supplier products. Some of the unique selling point what OEM is expecting from the suppliers are low cost & higher durability.
In conventional piston, over period of time there will be wear and tear of the piston since it slides along the bore of the cylinders and has a limited durability.
In assemblies of this type, the piston wears out and damages the mating parts. This leads to the replacement of the piston and the mating part which incurs cost and time. In-addition to the durability, field abuse is the major problem which prone to part failures. Various proposals have been made from time to time in the past to overcome this problem. In some of these cases, push rod seating profile in piston is modified to take up the articulation or abuse in the field. These profile requires special machining process and incurs cost.Another value engineering for product improment is to convert the metal parts into polymers. This will drastically reduce the second operation in metal parts like machining & surface finish coating and also improve the durability of the parts. Since the density of polymers are very less compared to metal parts, the weight of the part will drastically come down which gives a fuel consumption advantage to OEM.
Some of the prior art in this field reveal various improvements made over the years in the art in clutch pistons for better working and efficacy.
Indian Patent Application No: 3771/KOLNP/2008 discloses a reciprocating-piston compressor (1:1') having at least two working cylinders (2,4;2',41) which are arranged one behind the other along a cylinder axis and in which is axially moveably guided in each case one piston (6,8, 6',8'), wherein the pistons (6,8,6',8') have a common axially actuated piston rod (10,10') which extends through a passage opening (32,32') in a partition (26,26') between the working cylinders (2,4;,2',4'). The invention provides that the working cylinders (2,4; 2',4') are sealed off from one another. in the region of the piston rod (10,10') exclusively by means of a non-contact seal in the form of an axial gap seal (66,66') which is formed between a radially outer peripheral face of the pistion rod (10, 10') and a radially inner peripheral face of the passage opening (32,32').
Indian Patent Application No: 1947/MUMNP/2008 claims rotary piston type internal combustion engine (El) comprises an output shaft (1), a rotor (2), a housing (4), an annular operation chamber (5) formed by the rotor and housing on at least one side of the rotor in the axial direction of the output shaft for constituting an intake operation chamber, a compression operation chamber, a combustion operation chamber, and an exhaust operation chamber, a pressuring/pressured member (6) provided to the rotor for partitioning the annular operation chamber, two operation chamber partitions (7, 8) provided to the housing for partitioning the annular operation chamber, biasing mechanisms for biasing the operation chamber partitions toward their respective advanced positions, an intake port (11), an exhaust port (12), and a fuel injector (14), wherein the pressuring/pressured member (6) is constituted by an arc-shaped partition having first and second inclined surfaces and the operation chamber partitions (7, 8) are each constituted by a reciprocating partition reciprocating in parallel to the axis of the output shaft.
Indian Patent Application No: 1356/MUMNP/2012 describes a free-piston engine comprising an engine cylinder and a single piston member comprising a double-ended piston configured to move within the cylinder, wherein the piston member partitions the cylinder into two separate chambers, each of which are supplied with a compressible working fluid from one or more intake means, the piston being arranged to move over and past the intake means during each stroke such that the fluid is replenished within one chamber while the piston compresses the fluid held in the other chamber.
With the foregoing in mind, therefore it is the need of the hour is to develop a clutch booster piston that is durable and significantly reduces wear and tear, thereby having an increased life more than the conventional piston.
The primary purposes of the present invention are to create aclutch booster plastic piston with no parting line in sealing / sliding area, when manufactured, has the normal operating or running clearances or tolerances between the piston and the cylinder and which, when subjected to the normal operating pressure developed within the piston and cylinder, increases the life of the rubber seal since it moves over plastic instead of metal, while at the same time holding frictional losses developed during reciprocation of the piston to a minimum. A related purpose is to form a piston of the foregoing characteristics in a manner which will weigh 1/4th the weight of the conventional clutch booster pistons. This invention eventually addresses the above and proves to be performance efficient, cost effective, higher durability and eases the assembly. These and other objects of the invention will become more apparent in the course of the ensuing specification and claims when taken with the accompanying drawings.
Further it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that the objects of this invention have been achieved by providing a clutch booster plastic piston with no parting line in sealing / sliding areawhich is unique in nature unlike existing clutch actuation systems as described in the above prior art. Various changes may be made in and without departing from the concept of the invention.
