Cogenerating Heat And Power In Industrial Plants
Abstract: A system (100) for cogenerating a low-pressure (LP) steam and electric power using saturated steam is described. The system (100) comprises a boiler (102) for providing a high-pressure (HP) steam. A first portion of the HP steam is fed to a first process area (108) and a second portion of the HP steam is fed to a second process area (110) after converting it to the LP steam. The second portion of the HP steam is provided to a steam turbine (104). The steam turbine (104) expands the second portion of the HP steam to generate the LP steam at a predetermined pressure for feeding to the second process area (110). Further, the steam turbine (104) recovers an amount of the second portion of the HP steam exhausted during the expansion to generate mechanical energy, which is further converted to the electric power.
