Combined Brake System For A Motorcycle.

Abstract: Combined Brake Actuation System A combined brake actuation system (CBAS) (100) for a two wheeler comprising; link 1 (102), link 2 (104), link 3 (106), a master cylinder assembly (120) and a push rod fork (108). Link 1 (101) is pivoted along a joint 2 (103) a free joint (101) is connected with a brake pedal (6) and another free joint 3 (105) is connected with link 2 (104) which couples the link 1 (102) with link 3 (106) pivoted along a fixed joint 5 (109) and two free joints (107, 109). On application of brake pedal (6) braking force is transferred through link 1 (102) to link 3 (106) which then applies rear brake through rear brake rod (5). Once the rear brake is applied and the force on joint 2 (103) overcomes the spring force the front braking would take place via push rod fork (108) on master cylinder (120). Reference Fig 2

Specification

DESC:Hereinafter, an embodiment of delay cum master cylinder assembly for combined brake system in two wheeler according to the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings.
According to one embodiment of the present invention wherein, Fig. 1 is the front view of the combined brake actuation system (CBAS) mounted on the two wheeler as according to the present invention. A combined brake actuation system (CBAS) (100) is connected to a front hydraulic disc brake or a drum brake (3), a rear mechanical drum brake (4) and a brake pedal (6). The hydraulic disc brake or drum brake (3) is mounted on a front wheel (1) of the two wheeler and the mechanical drum brake (4) is mounted on the rear wheel (2) of the two wheeler. The combined brake actuation system (CBAS) (100) is connected to front hydraulic disc or drum brake (3) by a brake line (7). Also, the combined brake actuation system (CBAS) (100) is connected to the rear drum brake (4) by a rear brake rod (5). The brake pedal (6) is placed below the combined brake actuation system (CBAS) (100) extending toward the front wheel (1) of said two wheeler. A front brake system employing hydraulic disc brake has a three piston caliper of which two piston are operated by a hand operable brake lever mounted at a handlebar (9) connected to the hydraulic disc brake (3) by another front brake line (8).
According to one embodiment of the present invention wherein, Fig. 2 is the combined brake actuation system (CBAS) as according to the present invention. The combined brake actuation system (CBAS) (100) comprising: a link 1 (102), a link 2 (104), a link 3 (106), a master cylinder assembly (120), a piston push rod link (108). The link 1 (102) is pivoted about joint 1 (101), joint 2 (103) and joint 3 (105). The joint 1 (101) is connected with a brake pedal (6), joint 2 (103) is connected with master cylinder assembly (120). A central axis being defined as one parallel to the ground and perpendicular to said two wheeler. From joint 3 (105) another link which is link 2 (104) is generally placed horizontal with respect to central axis of said two wheeler. The link 2 (104) is connected with joint 3 (105) on one end and joint 4 (107) on other. Link 2 (104) is the coupler of link 1 (102) and link 3 (106). From joint 4 (107) on link 2 (104) is connected link 3 (106) generally placed vertical to the central axis of said two wheeler. The link 3 is pivoted about joint 5 (109). Link 3 (106) connects joint 4 (107), joint 5 (109) and joint 6 (111). Link 3 (106) is the follower of link 1 (02) and link 2 (104). The piston push rod link (108) is pivoted about joint 2 (103) and joint 5 (109) present on link 1 (102) and link 3 (106) respectively. The piston push rod link (108) further extends to connect with the master cylinder assembly (120).The master cylinder assembly (120) may be coupled with a delay valve and an oil reservoir.
According to another embodiment of the present invention wherein, Fig. 3 and 4 are front and back perspective view of the combined brake actuation system (CBAS) as according to the present invention. The combined brake actuation system (CBAS) (100) link 1 (102) joint 1 is connected with the brake pedal (6). Whereas, the link 3 (106) joint 6 (111) is connected with the rear brake rod (5). Joint 5 (111) is a fixed joint. From the master cylinder assembly (120) arises another brake line (7) supplying braking pressure to the front wheel of the two wheeler.
According to one embodiment of the present invention wherein, Fig. 5 and 6 is the front view of the combined brake actuation system (CBAS) showing flow of braking force for rear brake operation and front brake operation respectively as according to the present invention. On application of force on the brake pedal (6) connected to link 1 (102) at joint 1 (101), link 1 (102) rotates about the joint 2 (103) thereafter link 3 (106) is rotated due to the transfer of braking force through coupled link 2 (104). The rear brake rod (5) connected at joint 6 (111) on link 3 (105) is then pulled and rear drum brake (4) would be operated thereby leading to braking. Once the applied braking force is transferred extra efforts applied on the brake pedal (6) is used to apply the front wheel brake. At this stage joint 6 (111) would not move further relatively thereby, movement of joint 3 (105) and joint 4 (107) would be restricted. Thereafter, joint 2 (103) on link 1 (102) would be able to overcome the spring force of the piston push rod link (108) hence leading to application of front wheel brake through master cylinder assembly (120).
It will be appreciated form the foregoing description that various other embodiments of the above mentioned device are possible without departing from the scope and ambit of this invention.
