Abstract: Disclosed herein is a suspension assembly for a vehicle with means for attaching leaf springs and shock absorbers to a vehicle axle. The leaf springs extend in a longitudinal direction of the vehicle and have intermediate ends attached to one end of an axle by a plate and U-shaped bolts. The plate is disposed below the leaf springs. A mounting means is provided at the lower side of the plate for mounting a lower end of the shock absorber. The mounting means has a first end attached to the plate and a second end that extends outside the plate. The lower end of the of the shock absorber is attached to the second end of the mounting means whereas the upper end of the shock absorber is attached to the vehicle frame. A reinforcement member is provided at the lower side of the plate to secure the attachment of the mounting means to the plate.

PREAMBLE TO THE DESCRIPTION
The following specification describes the invention
FIELD OF INVENTION:
The present invention relates to providing a common bracket for leaf spring and shock absorber mounting in an automobile.
BACKGROUND:
Conventionally, two different brackets are used to separately mount the leaf spring and the shock absorber to the rear axle of the vehicle. The bracket for mounting the shock absorber is placed on the rear axle close to the bracket for mounting the leaf spring. The two different brackets are separately welded to the rear axle of the vehicle, thereby increasing the number of parts in the vehicle and the number of processes involved in assembling the vehicle.
Welding of additional bracket on the rear axle may cause rear axle failure due to welding and increased weight of the vehicle. Further, increased number of processes such as an additional process of holding and welding of shock absorber needs to be carried out.
Thus, there exists a need for a mounting arrangement in automobiles to overcome the above said problems.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION:
An object of the present invention is relates to provide a common mounting arrangement for leaf spring and shock absorber on the rear axle.
Another object of the present invention is to reduce the number of mountings in an automobile
1
Yet another object of the invention is to reduce the number of processes involved in assembling of a vehicle.
One more object of the invention is to reduce the stress on the rear axle of the
automobile due to welding of additional components.
Various modifications of the disclosed objects, as well as alternate objects of the invention, will become apparent to persons skilled in the art upon reference to the description of the invention. It is therefore contemplated that such modifications can be made without departing from the spirit or scope of the present invention as defined.
DESCRIPTION:
The present invention relates to a providing a common bracket for the leaf spring and shock absorber.
Fig. 1 illustrates an embodiment of the method and system of the present invention depicting the common bracket assembly.
In accordance with one of the embodiment the common bracket assembly mainly comprises a rear leaf spring assembly 102, a shock absorber 104, a leaf spring guide plate 106 and shock absorber mounting pin 108. The figure depicts the arrangement of the rear leaf spring assembly 102 and shock absorber 104 along with the leaf spring guide plate 106 and shock absorber mounting pin 108 on the rear axle 110.
The shock absorber mounting pin 108 is welded to the leaf spring guide plate 106. The shock absorber mounting pin 108 holds the shock absorber 104 while the leaf spring
2
assembly 102 is fixed to the rear axle 110 by means of a lock nut configuration. A pair of u-bolt 112 is used to fix the leaf spring assembly 102 and the leaf spring guide plate 106 to the rear axle 110. Locking nuts 114 are used to grasp the pair of u-bolt 112 to the leaf spring guide plate 106.
Thus a common bracket configuration for leaf spring assembly 102 and the shock absorber 104 is achieved by means of the leaf spring guide plate 106 along with the shock absorber mounting pin 108. In one embodiment of the present invention, the motion of shock absorber 104 is at a certain angle with respect to the motion of the leaf spring assembly 102. In another embodiment of the present invention, the re-orientation of shock absorber 104 to a vertical configuration is achieved by offsetting the shock absorber mounting pin 106 from the centre of the leaf spring guide plate 106 thereby making the shock absorber 104 motion parallel to the direction of motion of the leaf spring assembly 102.
Fig. 2 shows the leaf spring guide plate 106 in accordance with one embodiment of the present invention. The figure illustrates the leaf spring guide plate 106 along with the shock absorber mounting pin 108. The shock absorber mounting pin 108 is welded to the leaf spring guide plate 106.
Fig. 3 illustrates the common bracket assembly 100 placed on the rear axle 110, in accordance with one embodiment of the invention. The figure clearly depicts the pair of u-bolt 112 holding the leaf spring guide plate 106 with the shock absorber mounting pin 108 attached to it.
3
Although the invention has been described with reference to specific embodiments, this description is not meant to be construed in a limiting sense. Various modifications of the disclosed embodiments, as well as alternate embodiments of the invention, will become apparent to persons skilled in the art upon reference to the description of the invention. It is therefore contemplated that such modifications can be made without departing from the spirit or scope of the present invention as defined.
