Communication System For Broadcasting User Specific Information

Abstract: A non-webpage based advertising system and process for targeting and broadcasting a geographical localized content over a data communication network. The system consists of a user-processing device, a dialer to or configured within a user-processing device, a data communication network, and a central messaging server. The process retrieves user precise demographic data for targeting and broadcasting a geographical localized content (e.g. commercial advertisement directed for a particular area of city or country) on the user-processing device (e.g. personal computer or laptop).

3. PREAMBLE TO THE DESCRIPTION
The following specification particularly describes the invention.

Technical Field of the Invention:
The present invention generally relates to data transmission over a data communication network for launching and displaying pre-stored or real-time messages on a user processing terminal using a stream protocol. More particularly, the present invention relates to a method and system for broadcasting local area information as pre-stored or real-time messages, for example, textual/graphical/video/voice messages or combination thereof, using an internet protocol (IP) data communication network.
Background of the Invention:
It is well-known in the art that most processing devices, such as computer systems, mobile devices, or personal digital assistants provide access to various data communication networks such as internet, intranet or extranet, via in-built or external devices, such as Communications and Networking Riser (CNR) slots, ADSL or radio modems, or Wired or Wireless Routers, using an application, commonly known as Dialer. Dialers are used to create connection to the internet over the analog telephone (Dialup connection), Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN), Broadband Integrated Services Digital Network (BISDN), Wireless Local Area Networks (WAN), or Satellite and Cell phones. Internet uses a standard protocol for interface, commonly referred as TCP/IP protocol which allows user processing devices and service provider stations to communicate information across one or more networks.
The access to data communication network is facilitated and provided by number of service provider stations. However, till date service provider stations are merely used to establish connection between user processing devices and data communication networks.
In current system, information can be broadcast on user processing terminal via pop-ups programmed with websites, software applications installed on user processing device, or

point-to-point services (for example, SMS). A problem with the current system is that, most of the information broadcasted on user processing terminal is not relevant or targeted to the wrong users as current system fails to identify the user would-be requirements. A further problem relates to the limitation of information provided under current system as it is not possible for everyone to broadcast their information on internet due to various factors, particularly cost-factor and limitation to target prospective users.
U.S. Patent No. 7,079,631 discloses a method and apparatus for accessing anyone of a plurality of highly localized weather broadcast based on the reception by a weather forecast service of call related information (e.g. Caller ID information) relating to an incoming call. A server associated with the weather service includes separate weather forecasts each based on call related information, e.g. an area code and/or exchange number. The highly localized weather forecast may be downloaded in analog or digital form, and may be played as received by a caller or stored for later playback.
The present invention offers a system and method by which local area information, such as related to user profession, interest, or residing vicinity can be broadcast on their processing terminal without the need of any software application.
The invention also enables service providers to generate advertisement revenues by broadcasting information and thereby reducing their monthly subscription charges.
The invention also offers unparallel application during emergency periods, natural calamities, or public awareness' programmes such as AIDS, human epidemic and so on.
Brief Description of the Invention:
The invention relates to a method and system for broadcasting local area information on a user processing terminal using a stream protocol processed by a service provider station to transmit pre-stored or real-time information from a central-server. Specifically, invention relates to a novel dialer attached to a user processing device which is used to
3

connect user processing device to a subscriber station via cable line, dialup connection, broadband connection, wireless network or satellite network i.e. Direct to Home. The dialer uses processing device's application programming interface (API) to setup existing connection or to create a new connection, which when connected sends a stream protocol to a service provider station to identify user gateway IP address, which further contacts a central-server to transfer user's dialer parameters. Using the dialer parameter information, the user processing device periodically receives broadcasting information in the form of textual, graphical, video, voice messages or combination thereof. The period of each category of broadcast information may be different and the period may differ for user-to-user. The present invention can be a useful media for broadcasting advertisements, emergency information, weather forecast, and day-to-day required information. It can also be useful in generating advertisement revenues for internet service providers or mobile service providers, and thereby making Internet access and mobile subscription more economical to the consumers.
The dialer of the present invention apart from connecting to the communication network is also used for filtering, controlling, and sending the targeted messages to the user from the service provider station. After connection is established, the service provider station fetches messages from the central server which periodically transmits messages for broadcasting on user processing terminal for specific period of time. Messages to be targeted on user processing device are scheduled on the central server and determined as per dialer parameter information and a stream protocol between service provider and user processing device.
The messages are targeted at the user processing terminal in numerous ways. The messages can be received in the form of sliding screen and remains there for a specific period of time, which would be defined by service provider station in conjunction with the central server. The messages can be animated, with scrolling contents or a static picture or a simple text. The messages can also be displayed at random locations on the user processing terminal. The messages can also be in the form of bar placed at a particular location on the user processing terminal with scrolling messages.
4

The Invention is a novel method to target information and specifically advertisements from a central server to a novel dialer which resides on the user processing device which could be a computer / server or laptop or a personal digital assistant or a mobile phone or similar devices. The novel dialer fetches the requisite information and advertisements which are localized depending upon the location of the user through the communication network. The communication media is the internet or intranet or extranet or a private IP network - both wire-line, wireless and satellite.
