Composite Jig Fixture For Welding Submarine Flange Rings And A Method Thereof

Abstract: The present invention relates to a composite jig fixture for welding of scorpene submarine flange rings and a method of welding scorpene submarine flange ring using the said composite jig fixture. More particularly, the present invention relates to a jig for bevel edge preparation of flange elements and welding of these elements to form pressure hull flange rings having different diameter. The advantages of the present invention include, ease of use, compact and less handling time.

DESC:FIELD OF INVENTION:
The present invention relates to a composite jig fixture for welding submarine flange rings and a method thereof. More particularly, the present invention relates to a composite jig fixture for welding of scorpene submarine flange rings and a method of welding scorpene submarine flange ring using the said composite jig fixture. The composite jig of the present invention is for bevel edge preparation of flange elements and welding of these elements to form pressure hull flange rings having different diameter.

BACKGROUND AND PRIOR ART:
Submarine pressure hull are welded with stiffeners (T-frames) to sustain hydrodynamic pressure in submerged condition. Similarly, scorpene submarine pressure hull is welded with T-frames for strengthening the pressure hull. T-frame are fabricated from two rings namely web ring and flange ring. The said web ring consists of six elements and the said flange ring consists of three elements. The circular rings are formed by welding of respective elements together. The thickness of the said flange rings is more than the thickness of said web rings. The rolled flange elements are placed on the jig for bevel edge preparation (double V joint) and are welded together to form flange ring. The diameters of flange ring for Scorpene submarine ranges from 3.5 meter to 5.7 meter.

CN103302396B describes a kind of underwater robot friction welding system and welding method thereof, and described system comprises support, welding gun, fixture; Described fixture comprises clamping fixture table and is symmetrically set on a pair jig arm on clamping fixture table, described jig arm one end to be movably connected on clamping fixture table and to pass through hydraulic control, described clamping fixture table central authorities have contraposition through hole, and the corresponding contraposition through hole in described welding gun front end is vertically fixed on clamping fixture table; Described support is provided with the vertical lift platform of hydraulic control, described clamping fixture table is fixedly connected on the vertical lift platform of described support. However, CN’396 fails to describe a jig fixture which is used for welding of flange rings of scorpene submarine with different diameters simultaneously.

Thus, there is a need of a jig for bevel edge preparation of flange elements and welding of these elements to form pressure hull flange rings having different diameter.

Conventionally, welding jig for making flange rings are not available. Thus, there is a need of a welding jig that can handle multiple flange rings of different diameter in a single fixture, which can further save workshop space and manpower to handle flange rings.

The present invention thus discloses a welding jig, that can weld flange elements to form flange ring of different diameter at the same time.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION:
It is an object of the present invention to provide a composite jig fixture for welding scorpene submarine flange ring.

It is an object of the present invention to provide a composite jig that is simple and can be manufactured in-house.

It is another object of the present invention to provide a welding fixture that can simultaneously weld a plurality of flange rings on the said single fixture.

It is another object of the present invention to provide a welding jig, which can weld flange elements to form flange ring of different diameter at the same time

The said composite jig according to the present invention can simultaneously weld up to 22 flange rings.

The said fixture according to the present invention save a lot of workshop space and further consumes less handling time.

The present invention further relates to a method of welding scorpene submarine flange ring using the said composite jig fixture.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The invention is described herein in detail with the help of figures appended at the end of the specification. The figures illustrate the preferred embodiment as well as other embodiments that define the scope of the present invention. However, it may be understood that the figures presented herein are intended to exemplify the scope of the invention only. The person skilled in art may note that by no means the figures limit the scope of the invention. Any variation in the drawings by any other person will be falling in the scope of the present invention.

The present invention relates to a jig for bevel edge preparation of flange elements and welding of these elements to form pressure hull flange rings having different diameter.
As illustrated in Figures 1-2, a composite flange welding jig with circular base plate on which twelve nos. of slotted vertical plates are welded in circular direction is disclosed.

The said composite flange welding jig according to the present invention comprises of circular base plate with slotted vertical plates.

In a preferred embodiment, the composite jig is applicable for scorpene submarine flange ring.

The composite jig according to the present invention is simple and can be manufactured in-house.

The composite jig according to present invention can simultaneously weld a plurality of flange rings on the said single fixture.

In an exemplary embodiment, the said composite jig according to the present invention can simultaneously weld up to 22 flange rings.

Further, the said composite jig according to the present invention to provide a can weld flange elements to form flange ring of different diameter at the same time

In an exemplary embodiment, the said composite jig can be used for similar structures having large rings by modifying the disclosed fixture accordingly.

Further, the said composite jig fixture according to the present invention can be used for various other similar structures and is not limited for submarine operation. Furthermore, the said composite jig can be used for structures of different sizes or having large rings, by changing the size of the fixture accordingly.

The present invention further relates to a method of welding scorpene submarine flange ring using the said composite jig fixture

The advantages of the present invention include, ease of use, compact, flexibility with different size and less handling time.

Any variation or replacement readily figured out by a person skilled in the art within the technical scope disclosed in the present invention shall fall within the protection scope of the present invention. Therefore, the protection scope of the present invention shall be subject to the protection scope of the claims.
,CLAIMS:1. A composite jig fixture for welding submarine flange rings, wherein said composite flange welding jig comprises of circular base plate with slotted vertical plates;
wherein said composite jig is configured to simultaneously weld a plurality of flange rings on the said single fixture; and
wherein said composite jig is configured to weld flange elements to form flange ring of different diameter at the same time.

2. The composite jig fixture as claimed in claim 1, wherein the jig fixture is adapted for scorpene submarine flange ring.

3. The composite jig fixture as claimed in claim 1, wherein the jig fixture is configured for structures having large rings by modifying the size of the fixture.
