Composite Material Of Silicon Carbide And Coated Boron Carbide

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to boron carbide reinforced silicon carbide composite material. The disclosure also provides a method and means of fabricating silicon carbide-boron carbide composite by reactive melt infiltration by molten silicon metal in which boron carbide is coated with pre-ceramic polymer material as a protective layer. The reaction sintered composite material exhibit lower density, high hardness and good ballistic properties.
