Abstract: The present disclosure provides a composition comprising micelle encapsulated fucoxanthin, and quercetin, which at particular weight combinations exhibits enhanced inhibition of markers of liver inflammation, such as NF?B phosphorylation, and cytochrome p450 activity, which is suggestive of the potential of the said composition to be useful as a food supplement/additive to manage and ameliorate liver inflammation.
Claims:1. A composition for management of liver inflammation, said composition comprising:
a. fucoxanthin; and
b. quercetin,
wherein fucoxanthin, and quercetin are encapsulated in micelles, and fucoxanthin to quercetin w/w ratio in said composition is in the range of 9:1-1:1.
2. The composition as claimed in claim 1, wherein fucoxanthin to quercetin w/w ratio in said composition is in the range of 8.7:1-1.45:1.
3. The composition as claimed in claim 1, wherein fucoxanthin, and quercetin are separately encapsulated in micelles.
4. The composition as claimed in claim 1, further comprising suitable additives.
5. A method of preparing a composition as claimed in claim 1, said method comprising:
a. obtaining fucoxanthin encapsulated in micelles;
b. obtaining quercetin encapsulated in micelles; and
c. contacting said micelle encapsulated fucoxanthin, and micelle encapsulated quercetin to obtain a composition.
6. A method of preparing a composition as claimed in claim 4, said method comprising:
a. obtaining fucoxanthin encapsulated in micelles;
b. obtaining quercetin encapsulated in micelles;
c. obtaining suitable additives; and
d. contacting said micelle encapsulated fucoxanthin, micelle encapsulated quercetin, and suitable additives to obtain a composition.
7. The method as claimed in any of the claims 5-6, wherein micelle encapsulated fucoxanthin or micelle encapsulated quercetin is prepared by:
a. contacting fucoxanthin or quercetin with at least one carrier oil and water, wherein carrier oil to water v/v ratio is in the range of 3:1-1:3 to obtain a mixture A;
b. contacting mixture A with bile salts having concentration in the range of 0.01-0.1% by weight to enhance suspension formation;
c. agitating said suspension to promote micelle formation in said suspension; and
d. isolating micelle encapsulated fucoxanthin or micelle encapsulated quercetin.
8. The method as claimed in claim 7, wherein carrier oil to water v/v ratio is 1:1.
9. The method as claimed in claim 7, wherein bile salts concentration is 0.06% by weight.
10. The method as claimed in claim 7, wherein micelle size is in the range of 10-500 nm.
11. The method as claimed in claim 7, wherein said carrier oil is a non-volatile carrier oil selected from the group consisting of olive oil, sunflower oil, avocado oil, wheatgerm oil, sesame oil, and combinations thereof.
12. The method as claimed in claim 11, wherein said carrier oil is olive oil.
13. A method of management of liver inflammation, said method comprising:
a. obtaining a composition as claimed in any of the claims 1-4; and
b. contacting said composition with site of liver inflammation,
wherein said method inhibits liver inflammation.
