Specification

COMPLETE SPECIFICATION

FIELD OF THE INVENTION:
The present invention relates to a preparation of spirulina food supplement in 100% natural form. The distinctive taste and odour of spirulina is highly minimized by the inventive process, making spirulina highly suitable for the use of food supplement in powder form.

BACK GROUND OF THE INVENTION:

Our regular foods are filled with harmful chemicals and toxins, and some of the foods are genetically modified, which adds to the unknown health risks. Present day diseases that people are suffering and their energy levels speak volumes about today's diet and nutrition. It may be enough for surviving, not for living a real life which reflects health and energy, which was how our ancestors used to live a few generations ago. Human body is craving for healthy nutrition to repair, revitalize and rejuvenate itself.

Maintaining a healthy diet is essential for good health.

Spirulina is a food rich in nutrients which are found in green and yellow vegetables and it is also rich in nutrients which are unique to spirulina itself. It has already been generally acknowledged as "the best nourishing health food for human consumption" all over the world. Many international organizations such as Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), World Health Organization (WHO), Food and Drug Administration (FDA) etc, have reached a final conclusion on this point.

Spirulina is a kind of microalgae propagating in the tropical alkaline water of high salt concentration. The natives have collected these microalgae as food for a long time. Nutritional studies show that spirulina contains high contents of protein having well balanced amino acid composition together with other nutritional components well adapted for human health. This is often called a perfect food since it has the nutrient compositions so well balanced that there is no possibilities of health troubles due to the mechanism of unbalanced diet even when only spirulina is taken for a long time. Presently spirulina is being reputed highly as a health food because standardized food grade products are supplied by well established culture techniques. It is a well known facts that spirulina is a super food, which improves various adult diseases and also correct nutritional defect states by the long term intake of spirulina, it is also well known as a super food which would be beneficial for pregnant women as well as for growing children, youngsters and rehabilitation of patients.

On the other hand, the studies on the product development for spirulina are not so much progressed even in the advanced countries that only for tablets and some preparations of spirulina extract are available. At present liquid form preparations such as drink or instant drink is not available even though higher demand for the liquid form of spirulina would be expected. It would be convenient if we could easily mix spirulina powder with hot or cold water or with milk.

SCOPE OF THE INVENTION:

Therefore the object of the invention is to provide a spirulina food supplement with a pleasant taste and odour in 100% natural form. By mixing spirulina powder with spices, we found it is possible to suppress the characteristic odour and taste of spirulina.

In one embodiment, a composition comprising fine powder of spray dried spirulina and minimum quantity of spices is disclosed.

In another embodiment the spices further enriches and enhances spirulina by giving a pleasant odour and taste.

In a preferred embodiment the composition of spirulina food supplement is consumed by mixing with Plain water, Milk or any kind of Juices (lemon, sweet lemon, orange, etc,).

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION:

The present invention provides a food supplement formulation, having nutritional supplements in amounts sufficient to promote health and to provide a healthy diet. The food supplement formulation delivers a complete protein and Unique Phytonutrients in a pleasant tasting and bio-available form.

The present invention provides a food supplement comprising major portion of spirulina and minimum of spices mixed in specific ratio. The present invention uses the screening and drying method for processing the spices and it is ground to get a fine powder. Then the spices powder is mixed with spirulina powder in a specific ratio. This spirulina and spices mixture used as a food supplement makes a healthy dietary food in 100% natural form. This is a Super green food which is rich in unique Phytonutrients, complete protein, minerals, vitamins and it contains nearly 30 nutritional parameters which is essential for human consumption. This food supplement plays an important role in maintaining good health.

Spirulina, literally the most nutritious food known, is an edible blue-green algae used all over the world for its nutritional and medicinal qualities. Spirulina is a powerhouse of nutrition. This conclusion is supported by well over 400 studies conducted in various scientific institutions around the world. In the present invention spray dried spirulina is used. This spray dried spirulina is very fine in nature and has got all the functional nutrients in bio-available form.

Spirulina is about 60% complete protein, quite a large amount when compared to beef or chicken (approximately 25% protein each). 'Complete' protein means that it contains all eight of the essential amino acids that our bodies require to thrive. It has 10 other non-essential amino acids that play important supporting roles in maintaining good health. Spirulina is rich in Amino Acid that can restore cell tissues, helps in normal brain development of children and their growth and it also strengthens the muscles. Other than that, Spirulina is also rich in Beta-Carotene, Vitamins A & E and Selenium that are most effective in destroying free radicals in the body, increases the immune system and protect children from virus and bacterial infections.

An acidic body condition invites a lot of diseases such as cancer, hypertension, diabetes and gout. Spirulina is a highly alkaline food that can prevent acidity. Spirulina provides a variety of other essential nutrients such as vitamins E, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7, B9, and K and minerals such as calcium, iron, phosphorus, iodine, magnesium, zinc, selenium, copper, chromium, and potassium. It is enriched with important phytonutrients such as gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), chlorophyll, c-phycocyanin and other carotenoids including the powerful antioxidant zeaxanthin.

Spirulina is one of the most concentrated natural sources of nutrition known. This amazing algae does not have the usual tough cell walls that are normally found in plant life. This means that it is extremely easy to digest making all of the mentioned nutritional compounds highly absorbable into your body. All of this amounts to simply an unbelievable amount of concentrated nutrition in every gram. The single-cell algae also helps to prevent and repair DNA damage, balance the body's pH levels, fight inflammation, improve digestive health, and boost immune function.

Spirulina acts as a functional food, feeding beneficial intestinal flora, especially Lactobacillus and Bifidus. Maintaining a healthy population of these bacteria in the intestine reduces potential problems from opportunistic pathogens like E. coli and Candida albicans. Studies show when Spirulina is added to the diet, beneficial intestinal flora increase.

Spirulina is a naturally digestible food that aids in protecting the immune system, in cholesterol reduction, and in mineral absorption. Because it supplies nutrients needed to help cleanse and heal, while also curbing the appetite, it is beneficial for people who are fasting. A person with hypoglycemia may benefit from using this food supplement between meals because its high protein content helps stabilize blood sugar levels.

These health benefits from spirulina makes the food supplement more beneficial to human health. But the distinct odour and taste present in spirulina makes it difficult to consume. The present invention makes it very easy to consume with pleasant odour and taste.

Dust and physical hazards present in the spices are effectively removed in the screening method. Then these are separately dried in sun light to remove moisture which makes grinding process very easy. Then these dried spices are ground to get a fine powder. These spices makes spirulina more digestive and further enriches and enhances spirulina by giving a pleasant odour and taste.

This spirulina food supplement can be stored for duration of minimum of two years under vacuum packaging and it remains stable for that period of time.

The invention is described in detail with reference to the example given below. The example is provided just to illustrate the invention and therefore, should not be construed to limit the scope of the invention.
