Abstract: In military aircrafts due to space constraints, pipelines will be routed in very narrow spaces, due to this pipelines will have very complicated shapes and joining of these pipelines with corresponding mating parts will be a very challenging task. In this concept special weld fixture are designed and used to reduce the difficulty level of welding. This invention will reduce the rejection rate of pipelines and helps to obtain the best quality of welds.

TECHNICAL FIELD
The invention describes Design of Weld Fixtures to achieve defect free welding of pipelines and sheets.
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION
Defect free welding is essential for hydraulic, fuel and flight control system pipeline joints to avoid leakages through pipe joints. Due to improper holding of pipe pieces, edge/cleaning process and reach of inert gas at weld zone the welding quality will become poor and the weld assemblies will not be accepted. TIG (Tungsten gas Inert) welding is the process adopted universally for welding of different metal alloys as this process will provide good joining strengths. In aircraft manufacturing many pipelines and sheet metal parts needs to be joined by TIG welding process for more reliability and efficiency for aluminium, steel, and nickel and titanium alloy joints. Hence defect free welding is very essential for aircraft welding process.
SUMMARY OF INVENTION
Weld quality can be improved by having a proper weld fixture and preparation of surface before start of the actual welding. Holding of pipelines and flow of inert gas to weld zone constraints can be improved by providing suitable weld fixture having inbuilt provision of insert gas flow to complete weld zone. In this invention welding between pipes and sheet as well as sheet to sheet were improved by providing suitable fixtures for holding, smooth flow of inert gas and suitable methodology to absorb the heat generated during welding.
PROCESS DETAIL DESCRIPTION
General method of welding:
Welding is carried out by manual holding of individual pipes with purging, leads to various types
of defects like misalignment, improper fusion due to gaps etc.
Welding with Weld Fixture.
In these methods, Weld Fixture will ensure the proper clamping, alignment, identification of butting gaps and also ensure the proper inert gas flow to weld zone.
Two fixtures are designed to weld pipe to sheet and sheet to sheet with inert gas flow provision and suitable clamping methodology. (Fig 1 to Fig 4)
