Control Plate Assembly

Abstract: The various embodiments of the invention provide a control plate assembly. The assembly has a base support structure provided with pluralities of inserts for fixing with the supports and handling of a mismatch of preset interval in vertical and horizontal directions so as to completely align a door of the assembly with respect to the sag occurred in the door. A hinge is provided at one top edge portion for opening up to an angle of 160° for the ease of assessing the wires of relay and lamps. A control fascia is built with all its components for the access of module mechanism and various interlocks. A projection and a slider of control fascia used in SCPD interlock are provided on the side wall of the base support structure. 8 Claims, 2 Drawing Sheets. PREAMBLE OF THE DESCRIPTION:
THE FOLLOWING SPECIFICATION PARTICULARLY DESCRIBES THE INVENTION AND THE MANNER IN WHICH IT IS TO BE PERFORMED

A) TECHNICAL FIELD
[0001] The present invention generally relates to switchboards and particularly to control plate assembly in switchboards. The present invention more particularly relates to control plate assembly in circuit breakers particularly moulded case circuit breakers (MCCB).
B) BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0002] Power distribution systems in medium and large facilities use switchboards to ensure safe distribution of power. Power is distributed to various equipments including transformers, panelboards, control equipments and system loads. Switchboards divide the main current provided into smaller currents for further distribution. Switchboards provide metering systems to monitor the currents.
[0003] Switchboard is a large panel mounted with overcurrent and other protective devices, buses and instruments. Circuit breakers or fusible switches are mounted on the feeder and branch circuits to provide overcurrent protection.
[0004] Switchboards comprise of one or more panels with control switches, indicators and apparatus for operating electric circuits. Typically in panels of moulded case circuit breaker (MCCB), two types of operating contacts are provided. The apparatus can be operated in power contact to supply power to the whole module or SIC contact to test the components of the module in test position. A control plate is provided to interface the operator to enter the required operating power contact when the door of the apparatus is


closed. The control plate with controlling means such as buttons or rotary controls is provided to control the operating contact.
[0005] Currently control plates are made of mild steel with plurality of versions. However a number of plates may not be required leading to wastage and complex maintenance of inventory. The breaker door sags from the mounted components such as lamps and relays. The control plate is misaligned from the sagged door which may not be desirable. Hence there is a need to provide a control plate to self align the sagged door. There is also a need to provide easy access to wires of relays and lamps for rework.
C) OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
[0006] The primary object of the present invention is to provide a control plate to self align to the sagged door of the apparatus.
[0007] Another object of the present invention is to provide easy access to the wires of components for re-work.
[0008] Yet another object of the present invention is to provide plurality of knockouts to customize the control plate.
[0009] Yet another object of the present invention is to provide inserts to manage vertical and horizontal mismatch in alignment of the control plate with the door.
[0010] Yet another object of the present invention is to provide elevation in the door.


[0011] Yet another object of the present invention is to provide easy and fast assembling of components.
[0012] These and other objects and advantages of the present invention will become readily apparent from the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.
D) SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0013] The above mentioned shortcomings, disadvantages and problems are addressed herein and which will be understood by reading and studying the following specification.
[0014] The various embodiments of the present invention provide control plate assembly in moulded case circuit breakers (MCCB). The control plate assembly for the circuit breaker has a base support structure provided with pluralities of inserts for fixing with the supports and handling of a mismatch of preset interval in vertical and horizontal directions so as to completely align a door of the assembly with respect to the sag occurred in the door. A hinge is provided at one top edge portion of the base support structure for opening of the base support structure to open up to an angle of 160° for the ease of assessing the wires of relay and lamps. The knockouts are provided on the surface of the base support structure. A control fascia is built on the base support structure with all its components for the access of module mechanism and various interlocks. A projection is provided on the side wall of the base support structure. A


slider of control fascia used in SCPD interlock is provided on the side wall of the base support structure.
[0015] Thus the various embodiments of the present invention provide a control plate assembly for panels in moulded case circuit breakers. The breaker may be operated in power contact mode to supply power to the components and SIC contact mode to test the components of the breaker. The control plate is used to set the required operating mode. Various knockouts are provided in the control plate to customize the required control plate. The control plate is rotated 160 to access the wires of breaker components by hinge arrangement. The control plate is fixed with four insets to support the control plate to a wall of the breaker. The door may sag due to various mounted components including lamps and relays. The inserts accommodate vertical and horizontal movement of the control plate to self align when sagged door is closed. An elevation is provided on the front of the breaker to accommodate the movement of the control plate and aesthetic appeal.

F) DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION
[0021] In the following detailed description, reference is made to the accompanying drawings that form a part hereof, and in which the specific embodiments that may be practiced is shown by way of illustration. These embodiments are described in sufficient detail to enable those skilled in the art to practice the embodiments and it is to be understood that the logical, mechanical and other changes may be made without departing from the scope of the embodiments. The following detailed description is therefore not to be taken in a limiting sense.
[0022] The various embodiments of the present invention provide control plate assembly in circuit breakers particularly moulded case circuit breakers (MCCB). The control plate assembly for circuit breakers has a base support structure provided with pluralities of inserts for fixing with the supports and handling of a mismatch of preset interval in vertical and horizontal directions so as to completely align a door of the

assembly with respect to the sag occurred in the door. A hinge is provided at one top edge portion of the base support structure for opening of the base support structure to open up to an angle of 160° for the ease of assessing the wires of relay and lamps. The knockouts are provided on the surface of the base support structure. A control fascia is built on the base support structure with all its components for the access of module mechanism and various interlocks. A projection is provided on the side wall of the base support structure. A slider of control fascia used in SCPD interlock is provided on the side wall of the base support structure.

[0024] FIG. 1 illustrates the front view of the control plate according to one embodiment of the present invention. The control plate 101 is mounted to a wall on the circuit breaker by inserts 102. The door of the circuit beaker may sag from the mounted components


including lamps and relays. The control plate 101 moves and self aligns the knockouts 103 to the corresponding opening on the circuit breaker with closing of the sagged door. The inserts 102 accommodate the movement of the control plate 101 to self align with the sagged door. Knockouts 103 are provided to receive electrical wiring to electrical devices or other wiring within the circuit breaker. The plurality of knockouts 103 are used to customize the electrical requirements by the operator. Inbuilt control fascia 104 includes dials and other control apparatus for the operator to access various modules and interlocks in the circuit breaker. The operator sets the operating contact mode of the breaker to power contact or SIC contact. The breaker is set to SIC contact mode during maintenance of the wires connected between the control plate to the components in the circuit breaker.
[0025] A hinge arrangement 105 is provided to rotate the control plate 101 by an angle for maintenance of the wires. The control plate 101 may be rotated by an ang le 160° to rework the wires when the breaker is in SIC power contact mode.
[0026] FIG. 2 illustrates the side view of the circuit breaker according to one embodiment of the present invention. The control plate 101 is mounted on the side wall 201 of circuit breaker. A control fascia slider 203 is provided to interlock the control fascia 104. The control fascia slider 203 may interlock the control fascia 104 in a short circuit protective device (SCPD) interlock to interrupt a short circuit. The interruption of short circuit prevents damages caused by short circuit.
G) ADVANTAGES OF THE INVENTION

[0027] Thus the various embodiments of the present invention provide a control plate assembly on circuit breakers with easy access to wires for maintenance. The control plate is rotated to re work the wires from the control plate to the components in the circuit breaker. A hinge arrangement is provided to actuate a rotational motion of the control plate. Various knockouts are provided on the control plate to customize the operation of the circuit breaker according to the requirements of the user. The control plate is slidably attached to the side wall by inserts. The door of the circuit breaker sags due to the weight of the mounted components. The control plate moves in the vertical or horizontal directions to self align the knockouts to the corresponding openings in the circuit breaker during the closing of the door. The front wall of the circuit breaker is elevated to accommodate the movement of the control plate and for aesthetic appeal.
[0028] Although the invention is described with various specific embodiments, it will be obvious for a person skilled in the art to practice the invention with modifications. However, all such modifications are deemed to be within the scope of the claims.
[0029] It is also to be understood that the following claims are intended to cover all of the generic and specific features of the present invention described herein and all the statements of the scope of the invention which as a matter of language might be said to fall there between.

CLAIMS
What is claimed is:
1. A control plate assembly for circuit breakers comprising:
a base support structure;
pluralities of inserts provided on the base support structure;
a hinge provided at the base support structure;
knockouts provided on the surface of the base support structure;
a control fascia arranged on the base support structure;
a projection provided on the side wall of the base support: and
slider provided on the side wall of the base support structure.
2. The assembly according to claim 1, wherein the pluralities of inserts are provided on the surface of the base support structure for fixing with the supports and handling of a mismatch of preset interval in vertical and horizontal directions so as to completely align a door of the assembly with respect to the sag occurred in the door.
3. The assembly according to claim 1, wherein the pluralities of inserts are provided on the surface of the base support structure for fixing with the supports and handling of a mismatch of+/- 3 mm in vertical and horizontal directions.
4. The assembly according to claim 1, wherein the four inserts are provided on the surface of the base support structure.


5. The assembly according to claim 1, wherein the hinge is provided at one top edge
portion of the base support structure for opening of the base support structure to
open up to preset angle for the ease of assessing the wires of relay and lamps.
6. The assembly according to claim 1, wherein the hinge is provided at one top edge
portion of the base support structure for opening of the base support structure to
open up to an angle of 160° for the ease of assessing the wires of relay and
lamps.
7. The assembly according to claim 1, wherein the control fascia is built on the base
support structure with all its components for the access of module mechanism and
various interlocks.
8. The assembly according to claim 1, wherein the slider provided on the side wall
of the base support structure is the slider of control fascia used in SCPD interlock.
