Abstract:
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
This invention relates to self-watering or automatic irrigation device for individual plants.
This device provides option to 'get rid of' quasi-periodic manual water feeding to plants. The
most important ability of this device is that quantity of water and timings of irrigation can be
set as per need of plant. It can be used easily for outdoor and ‘plants in flower pot’ both. This
device can provide air and controls its quantity in root zone of plant which is not possible in
existing devices.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Water is the basic need of growing plant. Plants need water in certain quantity and period.
For this purpose irrigation is to be done quasi-periodically. Quasi-periodically irrigation is
very expensive, time taking and irritation full. So to avoid this, many devices are prepared for
self-watering of plant. All of them have a water reservoir and a supply system to carry water
up to root zone of plants. But there are so many demerits and complaints exist in these
devices. These arts consists a pot for holding soil, in which plant is to be vegetate. In this pot,
roots cannot develop beyond device body. So prior devices/arts are not fit for self-irrigation
of big plants, which need limitless depth and more area, to develop their roots
sufficiently. These devices supply the water continuously to root zone and create it saturate,
which is very harmful to plants. Wastage of water also occur. Plant need air circulation also
in their root zone, the present devices are not capable to do so. Many plants dies in these
conditions. In these reference there is a big need of such kind self-watering device, which can
remove all above demerits.

Demerits of Prior art devices
Most of these devices are available by the name of 'self-watering flower pot'. They have no
control on supply of water to root zone. Due to uncontrolled water supply, soil mostly
become saturated and entrance of fresh air through voids stops. Air circulation in root zone,
plays a great role in growth and good development of any plant. Roots also need fresh air.
Harmful carbon dioxide generate due to decomposition of organic matter and breathing of
bacteria present nearby the root. If there is no air ventilation in root zone, then these toxic
matter will harm significantly to plant.Any plant, vegetate in ground cannot irrigate by these
devices. Root cannot develop beyond the bed of these devices. These are fit only for little
3
plant. Water indicator used generally in these devices are very sensitive and mincing and
breaks easily.Main demerits of prior art are as below.
1.Prior arts are can irrigate only those plant which are to be grow in flower pot, not for
which are to be planted in ground. Prior arts consists a pot for holding soil, in which plant is
to be vegetate. In this pot, roots cannot develop beyond device body. So prior devices/arts are
not fit for self-irrigation of big plants, which need limitless depth and more area, to develop
their roots sufficiently.
2. These devices supplies the water continuously to plant root, due this, some problem occurs
such as-
(i) Decay of roots, occur due to saturation of soil.
(ii) Due to soil saturation, air could not enter the voids of root zone and development of plant
become slow.
(iii) Water could not supply in optimum quantity, so wastage of water occur.
3. The device cannot control the supply of air and water into root zone according to plant
need, temperature,
light etc.Air circulation in root zone, plays a great role in growth and good development of
any plant. Roots
also need fresh air. Harmful carbon dioxide generate due to decomposition of organic matter
and
breathing of bacteria present nearby the root. If there is no air ventilation in root zone, then
these toxic matter
will harm to plant.
4. Most of them cannot be reuse because they made, in-built with pot.
5 Maintenance and repair cost is high, most of them.
6. Most of them consists big number of sensitive and mincing components. So repair and
maintenance of these device is irritationfull and costly.
7. It is not easy to clean the main reservoir of these devices.
Object of the invention.
The main objects of this invention is todecease demerits of priors self-watering art and to
provide such device, which will able to 'get rid of' from quasi-periodic irrigation of plant with
these qualities and abilities4
(i) Device can dispense the optimum quantity of water into root zone of plant at desire
interval.
(ii) To provide such device which can be able to feed water for those plant whom roots
cannot swallow in pot and need more area and limitless depth for sufficient development.
(iii) Ability to 'get rid of' from continuous saturation of root zone.
(iv) To increase the capacity of reservoir at same condition and resources.
(v) Saving of water, especially for desert and hilly area.
(vi) Better option for those costly plants which roots are very sensitive against overdose of
water.
(vii) To provide a low cost rough-tough and easy maintenance device.
(viii) To provide a device, which can be reuse.
(ix) To provide such device which can be able to feed water for those plant who are vegetate
in flower pot and also can irrigate those are vegetate in ground.
(x) Device can dispense the air into root zone.
SUMMARY OF INVENTION
Plants need irrigation for their growth and development at certain interval. Irrigation/watering
at certain intervalis time bound, irritation full and costly. To avoid these factors, many
devices are invented. These are known as self-watering devices. Most of these devices
consists a pot, which hold soil for vegetation, a water tank to store water and supply system
which supplies water from tank to soil. The prior arts have many demerits. Device supplies
water continuously, which block the voids in soil of root zone. It decrease the growth of plant
and decay of roots may also be occur. Body of pot restricts development and free extension
of plant root. So big plants cannot be irrigate by these devices. Quantity of supplied water to
root zone cannot be control, by this wastage of water occur.
The present invention 'controlled water and air dispenser for indoor and outdoor plants'
removes these demerit. This invent device can control the quantity of supplied water. This
device can also feed water automatically to those plants, who have big size and expanding
roots. It also supplies air to root zone. This is a very cheap, rough-tough and easy mechanism
device. This device has full control on supply of water into root zone, so this is very useful for
desert and hilly area, where water availability is very low. This device does not supply water
continuously to root zone as prior art supplies, thus this is very useful for those plants, who
dies in a little overdose of water.

up/ balance of flower pot(34) on device a flexible rubber pad (27) is provided. Water may be
occur in between 'pot guard (24)' tray, so to remove it, drain holes (23) are provided, the
water drained out through these holes will drip into supply chamber (3). Water may be enter
air outlet (15) and can reach in air tube (16), so to drain out this water, a hole (32) is provided
in lowest point of air tube (16).
7
There are some other accessories present in device such as- hole (4) in reservoir chamber (1)
for feeding the water. Cap (5) is provide for the purpose to close hole (4) after filling the
reservoir (1). A other hole (25) is provided in cap (5) to avoid vacuum creation in reservoir
chamber (1) during water supply to control chamber (2). A water level scale (8) is provided
to watch the water quantity in reservoir (1). For the purpose of cleaning of reservoir chamber
(1) a wash hole (6) is provided near bottom and a cap (7) is provided, to close the hole (6).
Reservoir chamber 1 and controlling chamber (2) are connected with pipe connection (9) and
water control device (10) and pipe connection (11). These accessories (9), (10), and (11) are

Step 4- open the cap (5) and fill the reservoir chamber (1) with water through hole (4).
Now the device is ready to automatically irrigate the plant.
Description of mechanism of the device-
When reservoir chamber (1) fills with water then it became enter to control chamber 2 drip by
drip, through connection (9), water control device (10) and pipe connection (11). After
sometime water reaches near the top side in chamber (2), in this condition water escape to
supply chamber (3) through siphon pipe (12) automatically by siphon action. The control
8
chamber (2) become fully empty by Siphonaction. When water reach to supply chamber (3)
then it start raising in water outlet rope (14) through capillary action and reach to soil of root
zone of plant automatically. When control chamber (2) become empty by siphon pipe (12),
the water again starts to flow in to it from reservoir chamber (1) by gravity.
And this cycle does not stop until we do not want.
Supply of irrigation water can be stop fully according to plant need by water control device
(10).On the other hand air enter to air controller (17) and then to root zone of plant through
air outlet (15) or (21). We can stop air supply by closing to air controller (17).
Advantage of the invention
1. Quantity and interval of water to be irrigated can be control easily as per need of plant. It
does not supply water continuously. So decay of plant root due to over-watering will not
happen.
2. Due to control on supply, consumption of water will be in efficient way. So device will
save the water.
3. Where water is very much worthy, this device is very useful, because it dispenses optimum
quantity of Water, direct to root zone. Especially in deep desert and hills.
4. This device is very useful for those plant, whom roots are very sensitive to overdose of
water, because this device can control water supply, very finely.
5. It can supply air, to root zone in control way, this ability is not available in prior
art/devices.
6. With Desire supply of water and air to direct the root we can get the best growth in plant.
7. It can supplies water to plant from 15 to 30 days after full the tank once (But it will depend
upon conditions). So there is no need to fill tank for a long period.
8. There is no sensitive and mincing equipment in this device. Number of components are
limited in comparison. So this is durable, rough-tough, easy in maintenance and low cost
device.
9. It can be apart from flower pot or plant and can be reuse for next task.
10. It is equally useful for plantation whether in ground or in flower pot. It can remove easily
without any damage, when plant stem get sufficient dia.
11. Water level can watch directly in reservoir chamber when this device is in use for flower
pot.
9
12. In condition of direct/ manual watering upon the flower pot the excess water will not
spread on floor. After seepage from bed hole, that will stored automatically in this device and
will be use further.
13. It is able to irrigate those plant whom roots cannot swallow in pot and need limitless
depth and more area for their sufficient development.
