Specification

The present disclosure relates to multipurpose wheel chair for
patients. More particularly the present disclosure relates to a convertible apparatus which is convertible into a chair and a bed, also disclosing commode attached with the convertible apparatus.
BACKGROUND
[0002] Background description includes information that may be useful in
understanding the present invention. It is not an admission that any of the
information provided herein is prior art or relevant to the presently claimed
invention, or that any publication specifically or implicitly referenced is prior art.
[0003] A wheelchair is a chair with wheels, used when walking is difficult
or impossible due to illness, injury, or disability. A general transporting function for patients is normally carried out using wheelchairs or like devices. Numerous wheelchairs have been developed for this purpose, including both motorized and manually propelled wheelchairs. It has become a boon for most of movement impaired individuals right from its earlier introduction. As time changed requirement of wheelchair also changed to make out needs of different classes of patients. So many problems are faced by bedridden patients such as feeling lonely and will be craving for a change in their ambience.
[0004] A disabled and non-ambulatory patient needs a nurse to help him
or her, especially when relieving oneself. In using a conventional portable patient
commode pan, at least one nurse's assistance is needed by a patient while relieving
oneself since the commode pan is not designed to allow the patient to use it
without such assistance. However, most wheelchairs are limited to functional
capabilities in that they typically provide only mobility or transportability from
one location to another, and are unable to successfully perform other necessary
functions, such as commode pan, assisting in patient transfer, lifting and like.
[0005] Physically challenged Lifting and shifting of a disabled/bedridden
person have always been difficult, risky and problematic. Unfortunately, injuries often occur to healthcare providers and to patients when patients are lifted. In the

art, there is just no easy way for a healthcare worker alone to get down to the level
of the patient and lift the patient to a chair or bed. All too often, fewer than three
people are available to move a patient. In fact, nurses and are often called upon to
attend to patients alone. This can easily result in back strain for the nurses, and
despite the nurse's best efforts, may result in injury to the patient.
[0006] Many lifting and shifting apparatuses are available in the market.
All these apparatus are expensive and unpractical at home as it takes a lot of space and a lot of training for the user. In hospitals some help is available but at home one is helpless and finds lifting and shifting very difficult. Also, the wheel chair available in the market is used only for shifting purpose. It is not provided with bed facility. Also it does not have commode facility.
[0007] Problem corresponds to the ease of mobility of a bedridden patient,
which directly affects comfort & ergonomics of both patient & nurse.
Developments in design of wheelchair for such patients are an area of concern.
[0008] There is, therefore, a need in the art to provide an improved
wheelchair that can be converted into a bed, is adjustable to any desired position, and that overcomes the above-mentioned and other limitations of the existing solutions and utilize techniques.
