Abstract: The counter poise system helps in reducing the effort of pilot while opening or closing the canopy. The Counter poise system has a spring jack assembly, one end is installed in the Canopy Structure(Moving) and the other end to the Aircraft structure (Fixed). The spring jack assembly has: - It has two chambers, which are separated by a piston and has compression springs in each chamber (the piston end has one compression spring and the other end has two compression springs) - A spring loaded locking pin - A lever attached with a cable through a turnbuckle to one end and the other end to the lever installed on connecting rod of locking mechanism.
1. Title of the invention
Counter poise system for Canopy opening and closing operation with the option of locking of canopy in open condition for Fighter Aircraft.
2. Field of invention
It is a mechanical engineering design used in Canopy System to assist Pilot to Open/Close the Canopy effortlessly. This Design is applicable for Hinged Canopy.
3. Use of invention
This invention will help the Pilot to Open/Close the Canopy smoothly.
4. Prior art
Ground support Team used to Manually assisting the Pilot in Opening/Closing the Canopy .
5. Draw backs of prior art
1) Pilot requires assistance from Ground Support Team to Open/Close the Canopy.
2) In case of Emergency or non-availability of Ground Support Team, the Pilot needs to put high efforts to Open/Close the Canopy.
6. Comparison between prior art and present invention
This invented system will assist the easy Open/Close of Canopy without the assistance of Ground Support Team. Hence Manual assistance is replaced with Mechanical System.
7. Aim of the invention
Aim of the invention is to reduce the Efforts of the Pilot and eliminate dependency of the Ground Support Team.
8. Summary of the present invention
a) Counter poise System are essential in the Canopy System to provide effortless opening/closing of the Canopy.
b) Counter poise system in unique in design for Fighter Aircraft.
c) The Counter poise system has a spring jack assembly, one end is installed in the Canopy Structure(Moving) and the other end to the Aircraft structure (Fixed).
d) The Counter poise is a dual Spring Loaded spring jack assembly which is specifically calculated to counter balance the weight of the Canopy.
e) The Counter poise is designed to counter balance the Canopy, weighing 60 Kgf.
f) The Spring jack assembly has two chambers which are separated by piston and has compression spring in each chamber.
g) A Spring loaded Locking pin is present to Lock the Position of Canopy in the Open Position.
h) To release the Canopy at the open position, a lever attached with a cable through a turnbuckle to one end and the other end to the lever installed on connecting rod of locking mechanism.
i) The design is streamlined to minimize the effort of pilot in opening/closing the canopy by 95% with respect to manual opening/closing of the Canopy.
