Abstract: NOT AVAILABLE
This invention relates to a device for thermally insulating the muffler body of a scooter type motor vehicle from contact with the human body and simultaneously, for coofing the engine of the said vehicle,
Scooter type engines are known to be provided with a cover for the muffler body of the exhaust pipe for preventing contact between the muffler body, which becomes hot during running of the vehicle, and the human body.
Scooter type engines are also known to be provided with forced air-cooling for cooling the engine during running of the vehicle.
The provision of the above two facilities results in substantial manufacturing and assembly costs since the muffler body insulation and the forced air-cooling will have to be made and installed separately on the vehicle.
This invention, therefore proposes a device consisting of an integral entity, which reduces manufacturing and assembly costst yet achieves the objectives of insulation of the muffler body and cooling of the engine. Apart from easy assembly of the device on the vehicle,, disassembly is rendered equaffy easy, thereby rendering maintenance jobs simple and time-saving.
Various other advantages of this invention will be apparent from the following further description of this invention.
The device, according to this invention, tor thermally instating the muffler body of a scooter type motor vehicle from contact with the human body and, simultaneously, for cooling the engine of the said vehicle, comprises a first member consisting of a cover extending over, and spaced from, the muffler body, to Insulate the muffler body, a second member Integral with the first member and provided with an air intake window for entry of ambient air, said window communicating with a vortex chamber inside a cowl, said vortex chamber opening out against the engine of the vehicle,, to air-coo) it.
The device aforesaid will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, which illustrate, by way of example, and not fay way of limitation one of various possible embodiments of this invention,
Fig. 1 illustrating the right hand side perspective view of the vehicle
Fig. 2 illustrating the right hand side view of the vehicle
And
Fig. 3 illustrating the left hand side view of the vehicle.
A first member M1 consists of a cover C extending over, and spaced from, the muffler body J of the vehicle, to thermally insulate the muffler body against contact with the human body.
A second member M2 is integral with the first member M1 and provided with an air intake window A communicating with a vortex chamber V The vortex chamber is inside a cowl F, said vortex chamber opening out against the engine E of the vehicle, to air-cool it.
The cover C encapsulates the said muffler body J and is made of a stable heat resistant and heat-insulating polymer.
The second member M2 is attached to the transmission case D of the vehicle. The first member M1 (cover C) is attached to the muffler body J, and spaced therefrom, leaving a uniform air gap between the first member and the muffler body.
It will be appreciated from the foregoing that various other embodiments of the device proposed herein are possible without departing from the scope and ambit of this invention.
We Claim:
1. A device for thermally insulating the muffler body of a scooter type motor vehicle from contact with the human body and, simultaneously, for cooling the engine of the said vehicle, comprising a first member consisting of a cover extending over, and spaced from, the muffler body, to insulate the muffler body; a second member integral with the first member and provided with an air intake window for entry of ambient air, said window communicating with a vortex chamber inside a cowl, said vortex chamber opening out against the engine of the vehicle, to air-cool it.
2. A device as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the cover encapsulates the said muffler body.
3. A device as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 wherein the cover is made of a stable heat resistant and heat insulating polymer.
4. A device as claimed in any one of the preceding Claims wherein the first member is attached to the muffler body leaving a uniform air gap between the first member and the muffler body, and the second member is attached to the transmission case of the vehicle.
5. A device for thermally insulating the muffler body of a scooter type motor vehicle from contact with the human body and, simultaneously, for cooling the engine of the said vehicle, substantially as herein described with reference to, and as illustrated in, the accompanying drawings.
