Abstract: A cover frame with locking arrangement for a motor cycle has a first lug on the top inside surface of the cover frame; a plate attached to the main frame, said lug being inserted through a first resilient member in a first hole or slot in the said plate; a second lug on the top inside surface of the cover frame, said lug being inserted through a second resilient member in a second hole or slot on a flange provided on the fuel tank of the motorcycle; a third lug on the cover frame F which gets located on to a U-shaped bracket attached to the main frame; a bracket fixed to the foot rest holder of the motorcycle with a window provided thereon said window enabling a lock to be inserted therein, said lock enabling the cover frame to be locked by an arm to the foot rest holder of the motorcycle.
This invention relates to a cover frame flocking arrangement for a motor cycle.
Motor cycle side covers, hereinafter referred to as cover frames, are provided on either side of the motor cycle frame to cover the exposed portions of the motor cycle frame. These are normally employed to cover the air cleaner assembly, battery, tool kit among other parts. Usually such cover frames are locked by a lock and key to the frame to prevent such parts from getting stolen. The fixing of these cover frames is carried out by welded joints, the welding distortions resulting in dimensional deviations causing improper seating of the cover frame on to the frame structure producing vibration and mismatch apart from uneven gaps between the cover frames and the surrounding parts of the vehicle. The proper mounting of these cover frames also add an aesthetic appeal since the contour is matches to the overall vehicle body styling; and any uneven gap or misalignment will detract from its aesthetic appearance to the eye of the customer. Consequently, considerable re-work will have to be done on the cover frame in the production line to remove such quality defects, which adversely affects the productivity.
It is therefore an object of the present invention to propose a cover frame for a motor cycle which can be locked to the vehicle in a manner which would eliminate or at least greatly minimise the above mentioned drawbacks.
A cover frame locking arrangement for a motor cycle, according to this invention, has a first lug on the top inside surface of the cover
frame; a plate attached to the main frame, said lug being inserted through a first resilient member in a first hole or slot in the said plate; a second lug on the top inside surface of the cover frame, said lug being inserted through a second resilient member in a second hole or slot on a flange provided on the fuel tank of the motorcycle; a third lug on the cover frame which gets located on to a U-shaped bracket attached to the main frame; a bracket fixed to the foot rest holder of the motorcycle with a window provided thereon said window enabling a lock to be inserted therein, said lock enabling the cover frame to be locked by an arm to the foot rest holder of the motorcycle. This invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings which illustrate by way of example, and not by way of limitation, one of possible embodiments of the cover frame proposed herein

and foot rest holder
Fig. 3 illustrating the cover frame fitment with first location on frame
structure (section 3-3 of Fig.2)

frame structure (section 4-4 of Fig.2)
Fig. 5 illustrating the cover frame fitment with third location on frame
structure (section 5-5 of Fig.2)

The embodiment illustrated has a first lug LI on the top inside surface of the cover frame F. A plate PI is attached to the main
frame K said lug being inserted through a first resilient member Ml, such as a rubber bush, in a first hole or slot HI in the said plate.
A second lug L2 is provided on the top inside surface of the cover frame F, said lug being inserted through a second resilient member M2, such as, a rubber bush, in a second hole or slot H2 on a flange Tl provided on the fuel tank T of the motorcycle.
A third lug L3 is provided on the cover frame F which gets located on to a U-shaped bracket P2 attached to the main frame K. A bracket El is fixed to the foot rest holder FR of the motorcycle with a window W provided thereon, said window enabling a lock L to be inserted therein, said lock enabling the cover frame F to be locked by an arm LO to the foot rest holder FR of the motorcycle.
It will be appreciated that various other embodiments of this invention are possible without departing from the scope and ambit of this invention.
We Claim:
1 .A cover frame with locking arrangement for a motor cycle,
according to this invention, has a first lug on the top inside surface of
the cover frame; a plate attached to the main frame, said lug being
inserted through a first resilient member in a first hole or slot in the
said plate; a second lug on the top inside surface of the cover frame,
said lug being inserted through a second resilient member in a second
hole or slot on a flange provided on the fuel tank of the motorcycle; a
third lug on the cover frame which gets located on to a U-shaped
bracket attached to the main frame; a bracket fixed to the foot rest
holder of the motorcycle with a window provided thereon said
window enabling a lock to be inserted therein, said lock enabling the
cover frame to be locked by an arm to the foot rest holder of the
motorcycle.
2 A cover frame as claimed in Claim I wherein the first and second
resilient members are rubber bushes.
3 A cover frame with locking arrangement for a motor cycle
substantially as herein described with reference to, and as illustrated
in the accompanying drawings.
