With the present invention, a commonization of parts for covering the storage area across all vehicles is achieved without affecting aesthetics appeal of any vehicle.
The present invention relates to a vehicle and more particularly, to the
electric vehicle such as an electric motorcycle driven by a power generating motor.
BACKGROUND
[0002] Electric Vehicles such as electric motorcycles comprise at least one
battery, a power generating motor to operate the vehicle. The power generating motor generates necessary drive force based on the electric power supplied by the battery. The vehicle also includes a cover assembly to cover the storage area of the at least one battery or to store articles, and a seat to provide seating for a rider and a passenger of the vehicle. The seat structure is typically elongated saddle style having a rider seat and a passenger seat. The seat is placed behind the cover assembly. The rider seat is in contact with the cover assembly.
[0003] Currently, various types of electric motorcycles exist in the market with
similar or different types of seat. However, the installation of these different types of seat in different electric motorcycles is a cumbersome process as a new cover assembly is required to be designed and manufactured for every electric motorcycle. More particularly, whenever the seat length is varied in another electric motorcycle. The whole cover assembly is required to be replaced for another electric motorcycle. The designing and manufacturing of a new cover assembly became a sine qua non for a vehicle developer and manufacturer thereby raising manufacturing cost and causing time delay in developing another electric motorcycle.

[00066] Referring to Figure 8a and 8b, the cover assembly (114) and the another cover assembly (114') covers the at least one battery holding portion (162L, 162R) is configured to store the at least one battery (112). In the illustrated example, the cover assembly (114) and the another cover assembly (114') covers two batteries (112), such as a left battery (not shown) and a right battery (not shown). Alternatively, the cover assembly (114) and the another cover assembly (114') may cover the articles places inside the storage structure (162), without limiting the scope of the invention. The cover assembly (114) and the another cover assembly (114') may further provided covering to storage space for other electronic components such as wire harnesses etc., without limiting the scope of the invention.
[00067] The present invention eliminates requirement of replacing the whole
cover assembly (114) for another electric motorcycle whenever the seat length is varied.
[00068] The present invention eliminates the requirement of designing and
manufacturing a new cover assembly for another electric motorcycle (900) whenever the seat length is varied.
[00069] The present invention discloses a quick way to develop another electric motorcycle and also save additional manufacturing cost by replacing just two parts i.e. the rear cover member (308) and the adaptor member (450). In another embodiment, it may be possible that the transformation from one electric motorcycle to another electric motorcycle is performed by replacing just one part i.e. the rear cover member (308) of the cover assembly (114). During the transformation from one electric motorcycle to another electric motorcycle, the spine member (400), the front cover member (310), the tank cover member (304) and the storage structure (162) remain unchanged.
[00070] The present invention provides a common mounting provisions such as
the at-least two adaptor side mounting provision (450L, 450R) and the at-least two connection provision (162R1, 162L1) for mounting of one of the rear cover member
(308) and the second rear cover member (408) thereby allowing manufacturer to use a common storage structure (162) and a common cover assembly (114) on two different vehicles (100, 900) with different ergonomics.
[00071] While few embodiments of the present invention have been described above, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the above embodiments and modifications may be appropriately made thereto within the spirit and scope of the invention.
[00072] While considerable emphasis has been placed herein on the particular features of this invention, it will be appreciated that various modifications can be made, and that many changes can be made in the preferred embodiments without departing from the principles of the invention. These and other modifications in the nature of the invention or the preferred embodiments will be apparent to those skilled in the art from the disclosure herein, whereby it is to be distinctly understood that the foregoing descriptive matter is to be interpreted merely as illustrative of the invention and not as a limitation.
